10" Two way, Seas A26 alternatives

>>> It does every thing the Seas does and better at half the price. All you need to do is add a series 1.2 - 1.5 mh series inductor and you have a perfect 18 db/octave roll off starting at 2K. And the BP is DEAD flat below 2K and near zero break up above 2K.

I was planning on using it with this Eminence crossover:

Eminence PXB2:1K6 2-Way Speaker Crossover Board 1,600 Hz

And this tweeter and horn:

Pyle PDS442 1" Titanium Horn Driver 1-3/8"-18 TPI

Selenium HM25-25 1" Exponential Horn 90x60 1-3/8"-18 TPI

I would use an L-pad and caps to modify and blend the tweeter response with the woofer.

A rescued 1.5cf cabinet is in the garage waiting to be brought back to life.

The "new version" Eminence B102 has been out for maybe 5- 7 years - it has a double roll surround, and a "blue-ish" cone.

it was used in a Tekton http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue60/images/lorered.jpg

(this project would probably improve with a SAW lens - or a K-tube tweeter)

(ot- what's a good lowpass for Delta 10A i think its curve is like 2510)

here's a current version B102 lurking behind the cutout for an 8 inch speaker in a funky ancient scaled-down Karlson
it played pretty well with a piezo on top

I don't know if the whizzer does much of anything - Eminence's B102 graph indicates its smoother (way) up high than BP102 and does not ramp up like 2510, Delta10a. or Beeta10A (Is the big dustcap on those the main reason they behave that way? - or other factors?) B102 can be used sans lowpass. "Norman Bates" suggested a mild notch filter and to mate it to a Morel dome (IIRC ?).

Sweetwater sells B102 for ~$85 shipped. (about $15 more than BP102)

a couple more ounces magnet - pretty cast frame, and whizzer

I like the old spec B102 in my ancient 7-slit "Pioneer" Karlson 12 - its fairly mellow and plays drums quite well for only a 10" - the old spec was used by Zu in their first Druid - I seem some newer Druid woofer specs with the new B102 magnet weight which makes me wonder about some Druild 10 T-S parameters

a lot of vendors still use the pictures of the old B102 - that must date back over 10 years ago when it came out

both BP102 and B102 (unlabeled graph at the bottom) seem ok - maybe a notch filter around 7K5 for B102
would be helpful (?) or would a llowpass work better in that region ?

I just realized that I was misreading B102 as BP102! My eyes are really not as good as they used to be.

Thanks so much for the link! I may give this interesting driver a try. Has anyone ever measured or used the B102 (with whizzer) in an open baffle type system? John Busch?

the black area on B102's blue cone seems to be some sort of cone doping - Id like to sere how B102 measures with its whizzer lopped off - might be real smooth (?)

here's a graph of the original low Qts B102 with dustcap removed - plug vs no plug - maybe a short wood "phase plug" would smooth it further (I put the dustcap back on my old B102) - I think the plug needs mainly to fill the pole piece cavity

Any comments on this driver, H1305-08 CA26RFX the Eminence may not suitable for my project

Breakup peak at 2.2k Hz looks problematic.

If you can live with an 8" driver you might find this one to work well without LP filtering:
Audax HM210Z10 8" Aerogel Midrange
NOTE: this is a high sensitivity midrange with limited Xmax and Fs~175Hz, so you will definitely need a woofer below its range. It's not currently in stock at Madisound, but you might be able to find it elsewhere.

None of the 10" drivers sim well in a 42L box that I have (unless they are 87db per watt or less). I was hoping the BP102 or B102 would work but they either have a large peak between 50 and 60Hz or are -3db at 69Hz. I may go with an 8". If I had a 65L box things would be different.

As far as any and all of the SEAS drivers - I've heard a few in various projects and they always sound very good.
