So other than the jfets being smds, what's the difference to the version that was in the store until recently?
Now I'm confused 🤔...half-way between initial Iron Pre and its Big Cousin...

Now I'm confused
initial Iron Pre (both batches) are having complementary JFet buffer cells, all quantity of those (JFets) by Pa's generosity
future superduperultragigamega Iron Pre edited to have 2up+2down 2SK2145BL buffer cells (so same sex JFet buffer)
which is sorta halfway to Big Cousin's arrangement, which is having 3up+3down 2SK2145BL buffer cells
3+3 - also easy to see in any of my (zillion) amps with autoformer gain
I believe I will be the first to announce the death of 1 SE Iron Pre 2021.
These projects are to monitor my "ability" to continue under stage 4 cancer and it's effects under 'treatment'. I have failed.
Also, it should be noted I'm working under impossible 'lab' conditions. If a bedroom qualifies. No light and power stable as the penlight I use with it's always dead battery.
The autopsy and my 'ability' to revive it are at an end.
Side V Pos. runs 15V.
Side V Neg runs 1/6 of that value.
I did get V Neg to produce by swapping Q2 then under power fried R6 the heatsink of Q2 touched. Replaced that and trimmed. Trimming bridged Q2 The penlight 'happened to die' and shadows hid the next completion of the circle of death.
I've replaced all the parts I can. There is no room to re-install any more parts without destroying adjacent components. This is a completed board.
Before it's binned, buried, does anyone know the cause of the lower V? Before I attempt the second SE Pre.
Danke, H.

hard to say anything without pictures, if nothing else then as usual innuendo in thinking process
at least Q2 suspicious of letting gray smoke out
check and if needed replace Q2, T2, R5, R6
if easier, just order new ones, same as dozen BC556, just in case
then cut pins of everything you think replacing - easier dealing-desoldering when you have solo pins to deal with
counting that you don't have desoldering station handy

V minus side replaced Q2 with Q2 from second SE kit. This brought up the V to 15. No gray smoke was released. Re-installed board on case. Heatsink on Q2 touched R6 and killed it. Replaced R5 and R6. Most likely at this time bridged Q3 second kit replacing resistors.
Power up under Variac everytime.
Replaced D3 and D4.
Ordered new Q1, Q2 arrived from digi-key.
From what you are saying the only part not replaced so far is T2.
Q2, I will replace again, stolen from kit, third time. I ordered all T's as well. Did not want to steal from second SE kit anymore.
I will cut the legs off at the knee and replace everything I can. Makes a mess of the board doing it one at a time.
You are correct. No deSoldering station, it really is required. It's sitting in 'shop' I can't get at. That is why board may fail after all is done.
I bought a workstation lamp. I've already defiled his bedroom. What's he going to do?
You have put off calling time of death until at least a week.

^ It is sold through diyaudiostore.com
https://diyaudiostore.com/products/iron-pre
Both versions are out of stock. If things go reasonably well, the new version along with the corresponding parts kits will be back in the store by mid-year.

Ive never spotted a parts kit in thecsyore for the first version but, I could have missed the boat
^ Nope, no boat has been missed. Should be up in the store... "soon"...
They're at the distributor, and a few boxes need to be checked on the "web-logistics" side of life (per a note from Jason).
So... any day now...
Edited to add - This brings up a good point in my mind though... since it's been a minute since the initial kits were sold through, I'll shoot a note to Jason to see if he can send out a quick e-mail blast to those that bought kits to let them know that there are 'completion' kits in the store. A lot of folks may not track this thread. Thanks!

Thank you!
So I have been a little slow on finishing up my Sissy Sit r3, one open ended part of the equation was what preamp to use. Would using a pre also with a cinmag create any issues ie a planet exploded in in an alternate universe, or worse they become jealous like 2 girlfriends, Or additional noise or distortion?
Thanks
Bill
Thanks
Bill
now, you can't trust in my words, I'm (always) biased (high), but you can wait some more independent Greedy Boyz, to chime in
