Pearl 3 Burning Amp 2023

Ok, things are getting a lot closer to release. Using a 4-pin XLR for the power umbilical. The cable gland has built-in strain relief, it’s a neat part. The PSU works beautifully, and the circuit sounds fantasitc. Documentation is coming along nicely.

Yes. Very nice.
Vermilion is the new red. it's helpful to see into the connector.
Incidentally, what's the rational for"capturing" the power cable at the PSU end? My inertial tendency would have been to have a solid connection at the signal box (although if I had a male chassis receptacle to hand I would have used it I suppose).

Good question.

Ultimately I think it comes down to builder's choice, and either way would function perfectly. If making your own chassis, by all means build it however you see fit! There are lots of choices for connectors and cables and such, this is just readily available.

I think it's little more attractive to have the RIAA box have no attached cable, but that's just an aesthetic choice.

The only thing I wanted was for the cable to not have exposed pins, to ward against unwanted fingerpoken. Hence the male pins on the chassis. (Although at a total of 30V, it's still considered low voltage, so not that much of a concern.)

My P2 power supplies ( I'm on MkII ) both have the cable wired solid to the power supply. I believe I asked Randy why once... his reply was to put color changing LEDs in the PS of the Macho252SIT. ( The Bablefish is a muy macho fish ).

Sometimes it's better not to ask and just go along ( Dang! did I just say that ?)

Anyhow, I was hoping to start a trend in audiophile power supply cables.

Anyhow, my only concern with the attached cable on the PS is that it imposes limits on where to place the box. I would like to run it a good 8 feet away but the cable is too short... so the other available slot is on the shelf below the preamp... that means the cable is now too long....

The color change LED (slow breathing) are awesome! Nelson Brock used them in ACA Redux, and it’s one of those things that i thought would be completely silly, and instead absolutely love it!

@mhenschel No, the heatsinks remain ambient plus a little, and those are 25mm (1”) tall to ensure fitting in the 1U chassis. Heat isn't much of an issue at these low currents.

And the Vendetta's umbilici were captive at both ends I believe.
It seems to me that it is important to be consistent in best practices. While at 30VDC it might not be an overwhelming concern here the "fresh" builder might migrate the model to dangerous voltages.
Sometimes I'm a pretty good blind copier...

Here's the Mark Levinson JC-2 preamp. Umbilical cable permanently attached to power supply chassis, plug and socket disconnect/connect on preamp chassis.

The gray foam on the roof panel has gradually become deformed to the shapes of the rectangular potted circuit modules.

Thank you!

It’s been a supreme pleasure listening to it, it’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s amongst the very best I’ve ever heard. I used this as an excuse to go get a new MC cartridge to try, so that’s been fun as well.

I’ll be coordinating with @Gianluca about getting this chassis available, at the minimum it will be a set of the Front & Rear panels, the boxes are just the standard 230mm wide 1U Galaxy.
