Babelfish ᄅſ....or FW J2 on Steroids .... or Not your Father's J2!

@flocchini & ggetzoff

Thanks very much…Thib is falling right in to place with us.

Truelly an amazing boy. Smart as a whip!

I’m of the same opinion about mixed breeds and rescues. To be honest they also tend to have better temperaments and fewer health problems than the pure breeds.

I’ll need to figure a way of using is silhouette on the front of my projects “straight from the dogs mouth”…like Nipper

I have a stash of Semisouths finally!
Anand, my bestest buddy. Don't bogart those parts, my friend. Pass some over to me.

 :joker: Kidding of course. That's awesome that you were able to get some. 😀

Well, as I've said to a few others... I only had one set, I put them in this amp, and I've never second-guessed that choice. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.

Hi!
I am making a PCB for the IRFP150 version of this amp. Could anybody give this schematic some seconds to see if I got it all right?
Thank you!

🙂 morten

Sort of an update.

I’ve been living with the Babelfished J2 all IRFP version for a while. Don’t have any complaints…really a wonderful sounding amp.

I haven’t had a chance to up the Iq. The cooling units I was planning to use turned into a fiasco.

First off…if its too good to be true, well then walk away. This website is a scam…STAY AWAY FROM IT.

https://www.kiteok.com/product/ac-i...ling-blower-fan-system-17-inch-front-exhaust/

Luckily…I had changed my mind about which version of this cooler I wanted.

When I started trying to contact the vendor, I quickly realized that they were NOT in fact out of Maryland or New York…hell, I could figure out where they were. All my emails bounced and phone calls were useless.

I contacted Paypal and filled them in…said I wanted to cancel the order due to lack of communication and what not.

A month later I got a shower cap in the mail…from China…WTF?

Quick Google came up with this info:

https://ryngargulinski.com/internet...m-sends-you-disposable-shower-cap-from-china/

So…I dodged a bullet. I went and ordered the cooling units on Amazon at full price…got them a week later…and a few days after that, I returned them because they were too noisy 🤦‍♂️

So in the mean time…I’ve been slowly plugging away on the twin J2 case and power supply…while I alternately obsess over various speaker projects…and I do mean sloooowwllyy.

Mainly because the rescue dog we tried to adopt had severe issues. We couldn’t get him to stop pulling and yanking on walks no matter what we did with discipline training etc. In short…no impulse control. He ended up aggravating an old cervical neck injury of mine to the point that I couldn’t handle him any more. I’ve been back in physical therapy for a month and have been taking 2400mg of ibuprofen daily…along with muscle relaxers and Tylenol 3 at night to sleep….insert sob here😢

We ended up having to surrender him back into foster care so they could place him in a more appropriate situation…more than likely, he needs to be hearding on a farm judging from his behavior and breeding.

Things have settled down again and I’ve had more time to spend with this amp. I’ve noticed that my speaker cones don’t necessarily “Thump” when I turn it on…but they do push the cones out to the point that the suspension is fully extended briefly and then relax. It happens in reverse during shut down…to a lesser degree.

Not sure if this is a behavior that is enough to damage the drivers…but figured I should ask if something should be done to address it?

Just want to double check trixy ZM’s secret LED mounting code…

These squiggles near pads are “C” for “Cathode”?

…and last one on Right channel board is extra trixy reversed direction?

👍

just keeping things exciting…I start doubting my memory and have to take breaks to avoid assumptions and mistakes!

So far this set is going pretty well…only had one mishap mounting T104 backwards…was lucky that I caught the mistake with fresh eyes when I sat back down to it

talk me about that

being hysterical whenever I have to mount BD139/140 back to back on same heatsink
checking 5 times how I placed them on pcb, before soldering

though, level of my hysteria significantly gone down since I bought proper desoldering sucker station

why I didn't had that 20 years ago?

Had a frantic moment when I thought I got down to last three legged critter…had a B556…was looking for B639…none left!!!

Searched boards to see I mounted critters in correct locations…all looked good…WTF?

Then I realized I already mounted the 639 earlier because it shared a pad with a resistor and didn’t want solder to wick into the hole

😳
