I find 'dark' much gentler on the eyes than either 'light' or 'classic'. It is a great improvement IMO.Even switching to "Classical" theme, the forum opening page and main forum pages remains "light" (with only minimal changing).
BTW "classical" is better than eye pain "light" or "dark".
Hi Jason,
I appreciate you and your teams effort for this smooth change over, but I can’t help the feeling that I’ve lost an old friend. I don’t want to repeat many of the grips that have been posted. I will discuss a few in particular though. I really do not like the avatars everywhere, I don’t need to see colored letters or images at the beginning of the thread title or the last posters avatar. I really miss being able to quickly glance at the members name and see the joined date and where they are from with the flag, it’s inconvenient that you have to click on their avatar to get that information.
I’m hopeful these and other changes will be revised in the very near future.
Thanks for all the behind the scenes work you guys and gals do!

Yeah - noted. We are painfully aware of the need to increase the information density and improve the visual hierarchy. Thats a must-do but will take a few weeks. We have to get through the tsunami of minor transition issues but its on our list, near the top.Vertical space usage that leads the eye, basically. Irrespective of zoom, just vertically tightening (while preserving some delineation between posts). Atop each post, the size of the "XX minutes ago" is too big. The whole LHS avatar column is burning space, too. The overall first impression was a lot of wasted space and inability to just vacuum-up the usual quantity of info in one sweep (like you referred-to with your 12 years ago "front door" experience).
Basically, we're all geeks and we're used to density. Tell the programmers we want to scan it like they scan code and maybe that'll help. We want to fly down the board and find out where to dive in like they want to do the same with code. I know this board has never been set-up this way, but density like old BBS's or Usenet; examples are good. Again, this diyA isn't this, but check a screenie from the asylum. One scan, you can see what's happening, who said it, when it happened, and dive-in or move-on. That's the front door use-case for any subforum to me.
This fits under our "visual hierarchy" question - we know it is a bit borked at the moment and your comment is bang on correct - we have a subproject in mind to make the relevant stand out more and the incidental fade away or go completely. Please be patient - your pain is our pain. (But I'm certain you really love seeing MY avatar everywhere 😉)Hi Jason,

Number of posts per page - not settable at this stage. But we recognise that as an issue. Just the XenForo doesn't have that as a per user config (weird eh?).Any way to set the number of posts per page? The default setting requires too much page flipping when reading through a thread.
Also, I would love to see a way to permanently disable mobile view.
Disabling mobile view: makes sense. Will look for options. Currently if you are willing to you can do this in the browser by spoofing the browser and OS identity to some desktop version - google is your friend here.
Thanks - I'm putting these into the pot to cook and consider for updates.
I’d personally like the links to the various sub forums visible from the top of the page. If not universally applied, then available within my Preferences.
I’ll admit, it does look prettier, just not quite as functional as before.

Yep - you are correct and we will find an option. It turns out that this is not supported per user on native XenForo so we have a bit of work needed to figure this one out.We need a way to change the number of newest threads you can see on the home page. I had this set to 200 before and could quickly catch up, this was my main way of using the website. The only way I can see to increase the amount now is to click load more? I'm not going to click load more as it's a pain I'm going to close DIYAudio instead, which isn't good. Either add in a feature to increase the amount you can view or add in an infinite scroll feature where it automatically keeps loading in more threads if you keep scrolling.
Thanks.
I am browsing on my Samsung mobile.
If a thead has say 100 pages how do I get to say page 50?
As I can se I can only go one page att a time...

That's what the thread is for.None of us know what can or can't be tweaked in the system so we are just throwing out things that would make it more useful to us.
At the bottom of any page you should see the current page number and of XXXX eg 3 of 2345. If you tap that you get a popup that lets you go to a page number you enter from the keyboard.I am browsing on my Samsung mobile.

I am also finding it impossible to get to a specific thread page. It would be nice to have the page chooser back.
I do like this new look.
I started off using classic, but because of the above comment I switched to light/dark.
I find it good with other apps to use light in the daytime and dark at night, so easy access to change between these would be good, specially on the phone.
I have in the past found that changing the white background in light to 3% grey makes it easier on the eye, the same as the dark background is not fully black.
Great job and good to have you back online 🙂
The new light (and dark) themes are free from any limitations or restrictions on the past, and will be iteratively improved and modernized over time. These are the future.

Noted. Will be investigated. Please install [OzzModz] One-Click Mark Read
Noted. Added to bug fix list.old links to specific messages do not work anymore
syntax of old link: https ://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/119854-hornresp-1256.html#post6860617
Noted. Was probably just GV playing around with the new functionality of forum specific headers. Will be fixed. Is this “gigantic sign” really necessary? It hits me like a 500Vdc every time I open the Tube/Valve forum. I guess that is the intention, but it really gets old quickly.
1. NotedTwo issues:
- Font size does not change (in preferences)
- I had to think what the white square with the dots and dashes is for. Menu is ex-Quick Links. Sorted.
- There are only 20 topics instead of 100 in the forum overview (Unread posts)
2. Yeah, it's weird and not great for very complicated reasons (a clash between what we wanted and what XF has natively), just know it's being worked on and should eventually dissappear altogether with all those menu items existing in more natural places in the UI.
3. What URL exactly?
Congrats you found a link that has been broken since 2016 🙂This link generates an error! (store forum)
Can you send a specific example. We have started using a 3rd party image compressor, might be that.Haven’t used it much but would comment the pictures as shown in the posts are blurry. But when clicked upon they open with much better resolution. Just an observation from an old guy. Looking forward to exploring further
Yes, that functionality was developed. Currently is has been done in a way that was practical. Top RHS, three dots, click, choose "print thread". It doesn't fare well on very long threads. We are planning to make a better one in the near future after some consultation with members like yourself about how you're using it and get it working even better than it was previously. For those that donated (Enthusiast level for example), will the enhanced thread view functions return to allow viewing the entire thread on one page
This was discussed with the team of course but in the end got pushed down the list as you can click "more threads" at the bottom of the list to see more. I'm well aware of how peoplel actually use the site (a single glance at a dense list) and how the new information density changes that. It will be worked on, beer infused conversation last night suggested an information dense toggle.I'd love to have adjustable post per page (used the max of 50 in the old version), or did I miss that in the preferences? Again, nice-to-have option, no priority.
For mobile version, navigating into sub-forums is a bit awkward. Also, the top-level left-side menu that comes up (Forums/Matketplace) is sensitive to touch only close to the down arrows, not at the rest of the line/text.
The bug of not being able to click on the word in the mobile menu and having to click the tiny weeny caret to navigate the menu is known but sadly the team hasn't been able to find a work around yet for complicated technical reasons to do with responsive design. I can promise that this will be resolved one way or another even if we have to gut the whole menu system, but will take a little time.
Will get this looked into and get back to you.Any way to donate without Credit Card? PayPal, preferably..
Noted, completely understood (please read my previous posts), will be worked on.On the home screen, where it shows recent activity, I miss the forum that the post is from standing out more in the list of posts.
Before I could skim the forum column in the listing really quickly for the forums that interest me and then see if the post topic was interesting. Now it is the smallest font on the page and skimming each subject doesn't make it the quick "I wonder if something new and interesting is on there" glance.
I realize I can go to each forum and see what is new there but this was more of a "I have 30 seconds to kill, lets see what is new" thing.
👍They did ask for feedback; just because people are responding to that request doesn't mean they are grumpy or complaining. I'm assuming they weren't hoping just to get "it is so amazing" as replies.
Yes, 45% of visits are on mobile or tablet.Sure some things are much better. The old forum wasn't mobile friendly so that is a huge improvement and should provide a massive increase in traffic.
Noted, noted, noted...s a quick glance to see what is going on, the recent posts listing is much less useful for me now.
Agree 😉Same for the home page. You've got down the left the most recent threads in huge bold type, then off to the right, pulling you're eyes across, you have replies, posters etc. in much smaller. I just find these jumps distracting; it makes it rather difficult to key into. I'm not trying to be negative here, as there's obviously a lot of up-sides; but in the spirit of constructive critique, is there any way the titles could have the font size dropped maybe one or two points so it blends a bit better? I know as-is, it helps it stand out, but for me it's a little overblown.
A big problem previously was people used to use links from their browser bar not copy and paste the link in the top RHS of the post which contained the "correct" user-number-of-posts-per-page agnostic link. This was very unintuitive for everyone who was familiar with the problem.Worthe noting that that format did not work on the old forum either (not properly anyway). The post number is imbeded before the ,html to work properly.
The new link format specifies the exact post in the URL proper, and (hopefully) will result in all links now working for everyone regardless of their posts-per-page setting (which funnily enough, I think does not exist as an option in XF, IIRC).
Search in thread is just inside the normal search now.+1. Went to use that feature, seems MIA.
Look in the "kitchen sink" menu for "watched threads".How do I do 2 things that I used to do on the old diyAudio Forum?
1. Go to my 'Subscribed' Posts?
I do not see a click for Subscribed Posts
They will be more accessible in the coming days as a permanent 2nd level navigation bar more akin to XF stock standard.
Screenshot and URL?2. Go to Tubes/Valves Posts?
I can see Amplifiers, click on that, then click on Tubes. I do not see the filtered displayed posts, instead I see unfiltered posts. Then I click on Save, and nothing happens.
Thanks!
It doesn't, and makes use of mobile queries and @media rules.I don't understand why the look needs to be the same for all devices: the forum software knows which flavor of browser/GUI you are using, and should automatically adapt the display to what the user uses (at least, that was the case when I was in the business, ~10years ago, maybe the technology has regressed since then).
I think I've addressed many of your comments in replies to others, but thank you and don't fret too much about little visual things, they are going to be improved and refined now as time goes on.Overall, I think this forum looks much better than majority of other forums on the net, my remarks here are really just small details..
I saw that, very cool it shows a preview, very annoying it's the wrong preview! The text added to the post links has nothing to do with the actual posts that are being linked to:

Thanks for the feedback Vunce. All read and noted. Please allow some times for us to start refining things and in many cases restoring things that made diyAudio unique.Hi Jason,

OK. Got the Go To Page working. That was tricky because it was hidden on the mobile view, had to scroll to find it. Thanks for pointing it out
I like the little color lines on the 'forums' drop down menu!
I wanted to ask if you could name the "Full Range" forum "Fullrange" instead, because "Full Range" has a lot of different connotations, but "Fullrange" only one. It would make it easier to search for things too. Thank you!

Do I need to remind you that the grumpy old men are the experienced ones? You mean that the grumpy old men don't like it? Is that a surprise?
The ones who statistically answer the questions?
I suggest you
before dissing regular contributors.have a look around
Bowing to "phone centered" Millenials may widen the user base, for sure.
Or not really, they are happy to listen to music through earbuds and "DIY" nothing, at most buy what´s available on AliBaba or is being pushed by some "influencer".
