Looks really good so far, thanks to everyone for their hard work on the migration. I'm liking the dark theme, site looks better and easier to navigate on mobile as well. Also, posting a reply no longer adds a spurious blank line before my answer as the old software did - no more having to preview every post and delete the added spacing, yay!

one thing i noticed this morning was when i had text in the screen then added a picture, it spread the text, like this
You need to try and get the insertion point correct with the cursor. It may help to use the 'Toggle BB code' button as that will show the formatting better.

must admit i prefer it already, very good.

1) so far found changes more "cosmetic" ("empty/useless") than functional/practical.
Maybe later will find some advantage on the new format.

2) Annoying: on the opening page I have the full 33% of page width WASTED showing mostly irrelevant or at most of passing interest "members on line" (who cares about that??) and Forum Statistics (same thing).
View attachment 1003857In the old format such data was unobtrusively at the bottom, today it always wastes 1/3 of the page no matter how down you go.

Site (like MANY others) seems to having been "dumbed down" (less data on screen) bowing to "Phone only" users.
Even if that is an "universal" trend, and most users worldwide have dumped PCs and Notebooks for Phones, or at least Tablets, that is fine for "Talk only" ones but not at all for Technical ones as DIY Audio, where schematics and detailed pictures are paramount.

3) this is most certainly a bug: I routinely leave "grammar correction" ON.
For some reason when it finds one wrong word or a couple, it now highlights the whole paragraph.
Screen capture attached.
View attachment 1003858That does not happen elsewhere, as in MEForum where I typed errors on purpose.

4) that said, the ability of pasting pictures straight to Forum instead of forced linking to external sites is most welcome.
I absolutely agree on all points.
Since I'm not a smartphone user, I might not find any real progress resp. benefit compared to the old format.
For me, the old format was the best format ever (compare to all the other forums I knew).
But you have to adapt formats to the large number of users and the fact is clear that already for a long time mainly smartphones have been used for the web access and no tower / desktop PCs or notebooks with a real keyboard - at least in the private sector.

I assume that smartphone users so as tablet users with touch screen will now be really happy about the improved handling in the new format.

thanks for the huge efforts of updating the system with all the contents!
I also like the classic theme!

one issue (maybe has already been pointed out?):
old links to specific messages do not work anymore, see example in this post:
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/hornresp.119854/page-629#post-6870401
(this link above is new, so it does work).

syntax of old link: https ://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/119854-hornresp-1256.html#post6860617
syntax of new link: https ://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/hornresp.119854/page-628#post-6860617

(blanks inserted after https to avoid automatic preview)

I recognise that particular example as one which would have failed on the old site for anyone who didn't have the same posts per page setting as the person who made the link. I'm beginning to see a pattern, and I've made a report of it. I don't know how long it may take at this point.

WARNING: Tube/Valve amplifiers use potentially LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES.
Building, troubleshooting and testing of these amplifiers should only be
performed by someone who is thoroughly familiar with
the safety precautions around high voltages

Is this “gigantic sign” really necessary? It hits me like a 500Vdc every time I open the Tube/Valve forum. I guess that is the intention, but it really gets old quickly.

Ah! Looks like one could turn it off by clicking the X, upper right. Hopefully it will stay off for me 🙂

Definitely a big change for smartphones.

They should be able to adjust the content dynamically, depending on the screen size of the device, so don't worry as I imagine they will implement more things for desktop site that won't necessarily have to show on mobile site.

The classic theme is just for those who are used to what we've had for the last 22 years. We'll try over time to make it even closer to what was here before the changeover.

The new light (and dark) themes are free from any limitations or restrictions on the past, and will be iteratively improved and modernized over time. These are the future. In a few months I hope that most of even the regulars will find the new themes more pleasing than the old one. Please allow us a few weeks to make some improvements and months to get things perfect.
If most of us have set the site to 'classic' mode, then it's unlikely we'll ever see these improvements... :-D

The blue makes it immediately obvious what site you're on, and it's nice to have the alternating shades to break up the constant white. It's one of the things that did work from the old site.

I am never good with changes and this is no exception. I do recognize the amount of work that went into this migration. So far it is OK (hey, it is forum software, not rocket science). Dark mode looks good.

Two issues:
  1. Font size does not change (in preferences)
  2. I had to think what the white square with the dots and dashes is for. Menu is ex-Quick Links. Sorted.
  3. There are only 20 topics instead of 100 in the forum overview (Unread posts)

Looking good! I'm old, so I'm on the Classic look! 😉
Big up to everyone involved in this massive update.
One thing I miss: When using the 'Back' button in your browser, (or the dedicated button I have on my mouse for this), the title of the thread doesn't change from fat to regular font, to show that you're up to date.
