Acoustic Horn Design – The Easy Way (Ath4)

Something that could play 110 dB at 1m with less than 0,1% THD (2nd..9th) between 500-10000 with an existing driver. You see, I would like one (1) source to cover the basic content of live acoustical music incl. speech (so 400-... really). There are very good and researched resons why telecom systems are specified to transfer 400-4k.

CE550?

The CE360 should be actually pretty universal, usable with either 12" or 15" woofer. That's the main reason I would suggest it. This is a 12" woofer placed in a sphere (overlaid over the CE360 chart) - it matches the WG just below 1 kHz (it will be slightly different in a box).

I would consider a 1" driver at the moment.

+1 for CE360

Compression driver should be something readily available in EU/US/Asia, something that will not shut down or be discontinuited in a few years, with reasonable performance and price.

So BMS, B&C, RCF, 18sound, Beyma ???

I guess that most 1" drivers aren't ridiculously priced if we disregard esoteric units.

I'm afraid that Tymphany should be left out of the equation. They are notorious for discontinuing speaker units and 4400$ is a lot of money to take that risk.

Celestion on the other hand looks very good. Reliable company that doesn't change their offer every few years.

I think that the best bet is simply to make the throat angle large enough. The higher the exit angle then, the better. The worst thing that can happen is that it will require some slight additional EQ. After all, this is not meant to be easy, but at least available. People will never agree on something as a compression driver.
