Not yet back in my hands... but it sounded better than a stock CD-53 anyway, when modded my first 53 (opamp) one I was a bit sad it was just more detailled than the CD40...
The 53/63/67 type players do present the details in quite an upfront manner so you need to be careful when assessing how detailed each player really is. You don't want to confuse the dark, laid-back character of the TDA1541-equipped players for a lack of information.
Your 5V separation will do wonders in the CD40 as in the CD53/63 etc. Clocking is just as important as it is with the CD53 - it's just a different chipset and different frequencies!

Guys, I've done some more power supply work!
I had a strange problem with the additional transformer I was using for a couple of 5v supplies (DEM Clock/ Filter etc). With the transformer plugged in (cd player switched off) the was a high freq noise on the mains audiable through the amp! If I switched the palyer on, it was quiter but not completely gone. I spent some considerable time using a process of elimitation and norrowed the ploblem to the CDP. All interconnects were removed from the amp and devices plugged in and out of the mains until I narrowed the problem to the CDP! I removed the additional TX, plugged the CDP back in and the problem was solved!
So, now i'm a TX down! I used a couple of small 7VA's to get me out of trouble (def not man enough tho'). I decided I should start to add additional TX's. This was always the plan but I never got round to it!
I've now added a 2x9v 15va. This provides the power for the filter board via Hexfred, mundorf 15,000uF and 2 SPowers on 1 winding and via hexfred, mundorf 15,000uF, the +5v DAC via SPower and +5v DEM via SReg. This TX directly replaces the faulty one.
In addition, I also got a 2x15v 15va to replace the std TX supply to the Burson I/V. I also replaced the recs with hexfred (i'd had them for months but not got round to putting them in!) I removed the original TX supply to the board and put my new TX feed down. The circuit is now 15va@+/-15v, Hexfred, Mundorf 22,000uF on both rails, +/-12v SPowers, 270uF BGstd to Burson I/V.
I've also still got the smaller temp 7va TX's connected on the primaries. This is so i can utilise them for a couple of other 5v bits when I get some more PSU's built.
WOW!I don't know what else to say! Its up another 3 levels! Dynamics, seperation, detail, attack. I'm lost for words!!!! Will this player ever stop surprising me??? I'm not going to try and describe it becuase I've said it all before......then it gets better......truely lost for words!

After some furkling (which i can't take the credit for alone eh Lee!!!) I now have 2 or 3mv DC on the Burson output and have done away with the DC blocking cap.
Its all to do with a tie in on the DAC output to the +rail for the opamps!
Initial listen is that this sound in more open and dynamic. Less restricted but there are a few things about the sound I am unsure about. I think its to do with my room accoustics more than anythin else! I'll have a proper long listen and report & Also how the offset was acheived!

Slightly over-priced !!!!!
Around £150 -£200 would be the ballpark figure for one in excellent condition.
He is technically incorrect as well - cast iron drive? I thought it was alloy.

And what about this one?

Madness! Simon you are rich ( and you've got a PM 😉 ) !
I wouldn't pay more than about £30-£40 Matthieu. Its not much different to a Marantz CD50 and thos go for not a lot of money!
Indeed, I think I paid about £8 + postage.
I recently also won a Philips CD471 with the same chipset (although even more basic) for £3 + £10 postage. And it reads better!

I have an unmodified good condition Philips 950 which I am willing to part with for the shipping cost from The Netherlands. First come first served.

Sorry, it's gone!

Yep Ian, many thanks to Jan!
A new thread to this (afaik) very good CDM9 and promising TDA1547!?

Maybe, even if price on label might not be the real one for it's the one when the deal is done, question of fashio also as good old dacs even in poor factory setup sell very good seems!
A Yamaha ( http://images3.hiboox.com/images/2509/fb0011599082eedcefa1c7fa7d178676.jpg ) with Sony KSS-150A and TDA1541A has no succes even at 1€... coz the guy did not mention TDA1541A in is offer 😉

WHAT! indeed! I paid £5 for my CD50 about 4 months ago! I'm going to list all my players on ebay.fr from now!
Well done with that player too Matthieu, its got the same DAC(s) as a CD17. With lots of PSU work it will be an awesome player.
Yep, and I promise I won't catch another one... but the Yamaha if still cheap 😉
What about the damping wood and many 5Vs solutions here? For the 5V seems very good and cheap, may choose that for next mods!

TDA1547 does sound pleasing - sort of between the "proper" 1541 sound and the tinnier modern sound.
