hmmm i stil have 2 SIT pairs from Singapore on my drawer, but already having too many amps. maybe i will give them a frame to be displayed on the wall
According to this list (AMPLIMOS V-Fet & SIT Amplifiers, One Stage Amplifiers)
Tonkin devices are N-channel only, designed for industrial applications.
Quoted from the above site:If we thinking about applications for which they are intended, today there may be a subdivision:

the V-FET were almost exclusively used in the audio gear (low or very low power and frequency) and for this reason they were also manufactured in complementary pairs;

the SIT instead have been optimized for the industry, for the power electronics and for telecommunication for which there are devices of several KW and / or frequency of GHz. They, however, are manufactured only with one polarity (N channel) and as tubes versions do not exist complementary P-channel: ie unlike Vfet real, SITs were built only in N-channel. Another difference is that it could exist with bipolar charge carriers (BSIT). (Very high current/power)

Baaad boy, Mr. Nilsson!

No, not according to the list in post #139. All N-SIT's.
There are some P-channel SIT’s but they are rare as unicorn: SSAP4002M

Out of curiosity, are there any 'complementary' pairs for these Tokins SIT?

You're quite right Soundhappy. Sir Rothacher has done some wonderful work and generously shared it all with us.A many years ago pioneer DIY projects work was made by Mr. Michael Rothacher
aka AudioMaker | DIY Audio Projects, Etc.
He bring us first Sony Vfet's discovering on the forum and construction articles
and in year 2014 show high power Tokin 2SK180 , SIT modeling software,
how build curve tracer and much more..
VLOG #1: Curve Tracer, Big VFET, SIT Modelling, Ironamp - YouTube
Thanks Sir Rothacher for all fabulous energy and teaching 🙂 Kind regards
Thank you too for your great SIT work!

Is there a chance the design using the larger 2SK182 will have more power output than other versions using lower power rating devices?
What I'm really getting at is can we look forward to a 30+W SIT amp?
I successfully built a prototype 50W SE amp with 182ES with a fan cooled heatsink. Close to 200W dispersion. I'm currently building a final amp on an industrial water cooling plate. Been too busy to finish this amp unfortunately, but I'm sure it can be done with adequate heat management (hard part).

I'm wondering if ultra expensive jewelry veblens hi-end have co-opted some of the NP SIT concepts:
Essentia - Aries Cerat
TriodeFet? It would be interesting to see the device they use. Single stage single ended high power TriodeFet? Sounds kinna like a SIT 1 or 2 with a high power SIT and a larger power supply in a fancy package.

Looks like they also snatched the logo from Sea Ranch! But all in all, it's not a very attractive package IMHO. 🙂
