What's going on with LM3886 availability?

I repaired an "impossible" guitar amp, built around a very poorly implemented LM1875 (or 76, same thing) fed crazy +/-47V rails, boosted by a pair TIP35/36, designer could not see all dials firmly in the red , using one of a pair 1875 free samples, got them straight from TI.
Those were the days 😉
Man, the sample program was great. I ended up with a lot of useful stuff for experimentation. Built a really nice "textbook" BPA200 using LM4780 on home etched PCBs back in college as a project. I can happily say that I met all the datasheet/application note specs, and got a passing grade. My professor was pretty happy, as I was the only one doing anything audio related. The other guys were all into microcontroller projects or LM39xx type VU meters.

I need to see about if I qualify for the sample program now with my work email 🤔

I made a Typo, I was referring to LM3875/76 , not LM1875

The rest of the text is fine.

Yes, that old sample program was great, and guess thdy got TONS of new customers ... which is the idea behind it.

Living in Argentina, there is this schizoid (double mind) situation: I can EITHER easily get "up to THREE" of anything through regular Mail/Post (although it is checked by our Customs/"IRS") OR legally "import" which needs an import License which I must apply for, I must explain WHY do I need that, and involve a registered private Customs guy ("Despachante de Aduana") who charges U$ 400 minimum "just to go see the papers".

It always ends in ulcers, raised blood pressure, acid reflux, the works, because there is no guarantee the package will go through.

Never happened to me but lots of friends had packages retained and sent back to China, including the famous "10 boards for $5" PCB orders (ridiculous) because "10 of anything are presumed commercial use, for resale" while "up to 3" are presumed hobby use.

One friend had a $10 100 assorted resistors package retained under that excuse; at the booth just by him a girl was picking up a notebook.

He said: "that notebook has 2000 resistors inside just like these"
Answer was: "but those can´t be separated for resale" ... whoch of coutse was true but still non sense.

Plan C is to get stuff through FedEx of similar, who "rent" me their own "Despachante" ... for a fee of course.

Oh well, if Life were easy, it would be SO boring 😱

Man, the sample program was great.
Was? Last I checked it was still going. But nothing is in stock so that sorta takes the usefulness out of it.

I need to see about if I qualify for the sample program now with my work email 🤔
As long as it's not a 'free' email address (@comcast, @gmail, @ yahoo, @hotmail, etc.) it should work just fine. It's obviously better if it's an @ apple (or some other large TI customer) address.

Is the University Sample Program still running? National Semiconductor and TI used to give out samples to anyone with a .edu email address. I think ADI did as well. Wolfson did until they were acquired by Cirrus Logic. Circus Logic don't give samples to anyone. Ever. Maybe to Apple, but only begrudgingly. 🙂

Tom

I had a .EDU through my community college back then, but it's long since dormant now that I've not been enrolled in years. Current work email is @Google.com since I'm contracted through them, not Gmail public/free service, so I'll have to see if it works. Google is a big enough customer that I hope it'll work. 🤔

ST marked genuine 2050 are rare, production stopped before 2000.
ST 2030A are said to be genuine, or good, 3x the 'equivalent' price.

There are fakes sold here in India, with ST markings.
Repair techs here prefer the Wuxi 'triangle' marked devices, then the number only equivalent, then the ST marked ones.
But sometimes you have to buy what is available, and they work well enough if you stay at a lower volts, say within 75% of max.

Or you could always use the 'equivalent' 1875 (not TI) in its place, they supposedly can be used at a higher voltage than the ST devices.

Those are from UTC Taiwan, legally licensed, but with UTC part numbers, IIRC, not ST on the parts...

Profusion says UTC TDA2050, not ST TDA2050...
The ones marked ST are doubtful, UTC are quite genuine.

Unfortunately not sold in India.

Who said that UTC not available here in india,
I bought them regularly , whenever I think so , sometimes I have to wait like 1-3 weeks but still I can see UTC tda2050l , although I don't find any LM1875 UTC made yet😑I still have 50pcs or more UTC TDA2050L in my personal bins and many National Semiconductor LM1875 NOS

NanoFarad or Nirupam Bhowmick said not available in India, I forgot.
Both are in West Bengal State.

Where are you located?
And where did you buy them?
Price?
I'm from Delhi, India
And I bought them locally
Easily available here, but sometimes have to wait until new stocks arrives 😑
Otherwise available without any problems, and these days UTC fake aka Chinese made UTC2030 and UTC2050 are in the market,YW marked ICs are fake UTC made in China
LM1875 is difficult to get no mistake there, sure they are available, and Triangle D1875 is one of them but there is more copies of lm1875 available, which are not good quality products
Also recently I found HGSemi TDA2030A and Triangle D2030A

And this year was little bit lucky enough that I found Original ST TDA2050 , sadly only 6 ic, but Original

Here is the HGSemi and Triangle TDA2030A and one other ic which I haven't identified yet 😑

Here is UTC fake made by YW China copy

Ok, thanks...
If you can, please test triangle marked chips and tell us how it works at 12-0-12 volts, in comparison to genuine ones.

Old Lajpat Rai Market? That is India's biggest electronics market, many shops there....
The other two Chinese ones are new for me....apart from Wuxi (triangle).

Yours are made in China( under ST licence ), mine are Singapore.
The one on the left is 2050v, in the middle is 2030A, the one in the right is 2050H,
the back of these chips(made in Singapore) is IDENTICAL but it looks different than the ones made in China.

THANKS Vipinsaini20 🙂

Your "big chip inside" confirmation

img20221222001319-jpg.1121790

made me trust the UTC2050 ones which I´ll order from Profusion, probably 200 of them.
I must first arrange some "channel" through Argentine Customs so they don´t get stopped there , as in some beerbelly corrupt agent saying in mocked astonishment "TWO HUNDRED!!! What do you need that many for?" hinting he might let them through "just once" if I suggest some "generous contribution" ..... oh well.

ST Tda2050 was a great chip, i jst love the sonic signature of it. But now i hve very little interest in chipamps. Anyway UTC 2050 isn't available in my locality, not sure about Kolkata. On the other hand UTC2050 isn't available at RS components or Element14 india.

THANKS Vipinsaini20 🙂

No that Big one is Original LM1875T
Look carefully
LM1875T have 10mm² die inside

Now here is the UTC TDA2050L die
It's smaller than LM1875T , but it's a very good quality product
Don't worry about quality of UTC,
