There is a high price on nostalgia these days. Take a look at what a Scott 299 amplifier or a Dynaco ST-70 is going for. Crazy....
The inflated pricing is due to the interest in nostalgia, and the ignorance of the potential buyers.
Terms like "rare" help to justify such pricing as well, borrowed from art dealers that sell "valuable" paintings.
Put simply, it's targeted marketing, along with the human thinking of greed.
And yes, although it's crazy, it seems to work, and spreads to almost everything.
Looks like I*ve fixed a NAD C720BEE.
Got green led but no sound. No relays clicked. Not muted. I thought NAD - caps - protection...but no. It was all good. No DC on output or nothing. Every voltage seemed fine. Took off the front panel to inspect voltages . All I could see was in order.
Tried reset procedure, FM plus CD.
Voila!
Gonna test it further tomorrow, but all looks good now🙂

Just completed another Counterpoint SA-3000 redesign and rebuild.
Very happy with the performance now.

Not so much a repair but I installed the A/C's today. 2x8000 BTU units in 390 sqft. The fact I found them both by the curb, and they were still in plastic coupled with included electric makes me happy 🙂
I have them set to 24°C and I think they will cycle until September.

That reminds me....
81 degrees here today..... and gonna be in the 80's all week.
Time to get that 8000BTU out of the bedroom closet and back in the window.
And get the assorted fans dusted and oiled for the season.

It's warm here now, too... Toronto... 27°C... (80°F for those still in archaic places of measure 😀😀😀).
Gonna be warm all week apparently... So much for a comfortable May.

Redesigned the Maplin 75WRMS lateral mosfet amp.
Added extra front end decoupling, used MPSA42/92 transistors on front end.
Added easy to get trimmers.
Powered up and got hot very quickly and high bias current.
So power off, check every component and all OK.
So powered up again and turned bias current up and the bias current went down.
Trimmer wired wrong way around. So trimmer fully clockwise to start with and turn anti clock to increase and set bias current.
All ok and changed next revision pcb text to say start fully clockwise.

Great find! I have always had a fond appreciation for that time in spring and fall when I don't need to run the furnace or the air conditioning! It's always nicer to let the breeze blow through, but alas, it doesn't last as long as I'd like 🙂
The pollen count is high, plus I like it cool. So, air conditioning on and let that filter take out some pollen for me.
Allergies are killing me this year.

Hi Eric,
Thanks. This year is especially bad. It usually doesn't bother me much.
The cars in the driveway are covered in pollen!

Today, lugged the GE 8000BTU window air conditioner out of the bedroom closet.
Took me around 3 hours before it actually went into the window.
Normally a 15 to 20 minute job.
Not today!...... no sir!
The pleated accordian side panels were both starting to split open and seperate after 13 years.
Brittle, thin, cheap plastic, made in.......! 🙄
Nothing wrong with the air conditioner, works great still, remote still good too.
So....
I remembered that I saved the accordian panels from the big 18,000 BTU unit that's in the dining room wall.
After some inspection and figuring, I managed to remove the heavier vinyl pleats from them, and cut them down on the bandsaw to size, and some minor drilling, fitted them into the smaller GE side frames.
They look "factory" too.
3 Hours of work!
But now I'm ready for the weekend heatwave of 90+ degrees.

Today was "pile of vintage amps day"
TEAX BX 300 and Sansui 217 got a squirt of contact cleaner. The Sansui sounds really good.
Cairn 4807 - one dead BJT. But that amp sounded better when it didn't work.
Marantz PM550 - a bunch of resistors on the board had evolved to their final form, infinite resistance. Fortunately they all looked the same so once I had found one, the others from the same series were easy to spot. Adjusted bias, it works fine now.

I haven't had to replace those plastic side curtains on my window AC, but I have a different problem.
The double-hung window has little pockets on either side of the unit where the damn squirrels love to park their fuzzy little butts and CHEW ON THE WINDOW FRAME.
This would be bad enough, but one morning I awoke to the sound of one of them CHEWING ON THE PLASTIC SIDE CURTAINS. Okay, this will not do.
Bought some of that plastic deck/fence board material, notched it at both ends, and fit it into the slots in the storm window & sill on both sides of the AC. The weight of the window holds them in place. Covers the whole area on each side, flush with the outside of the window frame. Looks nice too.
Damn squirrels. Get a job already. I fully expect to walk outside one day soon to find one of them pushing up on the storm window while the other knocks my panels to the ground. Little bastards...

Jim, last year, during the springtime, I had birds chewing up my screens.
The screening was that nylon fiber stuff, and they tore big holes in them for nest material.
FOUR screens..... all chewed up!
Cost me around $27 each to get repaired....... WITH metal screening this time.
No more bird problems.

Repaired a leaking Westinghouse dishwasher, it would halt on a F1 error which did not finish the washing. F1 is a flood alert on the base pan. I tilt the DW and water comes out. Removing the base plate, I raised the DW about 1 foot high and placed my mobile phone camera under the DW. Starting recording when I start the DW. about 20mins, the outlet hose starts to leak when the water is hot. Replaced the clamp on the outlet end of the water pump. Took several tries as some cheapo hose clamps didn't do the job right.
Back to clean dishes.

My old 1971 KitchenAid dishwasher ran flawlessly for decades until one evening..
I was down in the basement shop, and I hear something like raining in the laundry room. - water coming through the kitchen floor above! - what a mess to clean up!
Apparently, during the last flush-out of water, the outlet hose came loose from the pump - clamp not tight.
Some Permatex automotive hose sealant, a new clamp, back in business!
A lawn mower. A bad spark plug.
It looked quite new, but the mower likes better an old rusty one.
I do not rule out the spark plug cable, wait and see and ready with a new spark plug.
Another Canon ink jet printer. In good shape that one, just needed maintenance.
