We really should repair the planet before it's too late, but isn't it just so fitting of our current society full of disposable crap that people feel like we could just go to Mars instead? LMAO
The world changes by one funeral at a time.
Mother Nature is fiction IMHO. Sure, there are cycles but this is all physics. And now think about the Ice Age, the Great Flood, the dying off of the dinosaurs.... all well before humans were around with their confounded refrigerators and slop that now gets attention for some reason.
Mother Nature is in control.... always was.
But of course that's not the focus of debate these days, they want people to be held accountable instead.
Besides, it generates revenue to feed the greedy ones.
Physics is in control (nothing on Earth could have saved the dinosaurs because the disaster was caused by an outside force), and it is within our control not to fill the oceans with plastic or the air with carbon. You may not think it makes a difference but it does according to many people smarter than we are 🙂
How long can you pee in your water supply before you taste it?
That said, I do agree on the monetization of certain climate change related thing that are cashing in without necessarily being any better for the planet. Oh course I can't discuss the reasons for that due to the rules 😀

A veritable paradise.

Man-made plastic bottles, of course they do not belong in oceans.Mother Nature is fiction IMHO. Sure, there are cycles but this is all physics.

Same goes for fisherman's nets tossed into oceans, beer bottles, plastic bags, etc.
And toxic sewage...man-made chemicals.
And........ all those millions of bits of space junk swirling around the globe....put there by man.
We got near-sighted inventors to thank for that, and the slobs helping things.
That's why I avoid seafood now.
I love shrimp, lobster, clam chowder....but no more.
Yet they tell me not to consume sugar, salt, things grown from the earth, nature's products.
The root, fundamental fixes need addressing first, the earth can repair itself, adapt, but the slobs need to change behavior.
I'm lucky I guess - never liked seafood save for beer battered deep fried English style whitefish drenched in malt vinegar 🙂
And well said.
I try to do what I can offsetting my tubes by using LED lighting etc. I walk when I can instead of driving now. I'm embarrassed by how much trash I have in a given day. I can't do much about it or course, but I don't buy bottled water and I try to avoid individually wrapped stuff too. Everything comes in disposable packing these days.
One nice thing in Ontario is they charge a 10 cent deposit on all beer, wine, and liquor containers larger than 50mL. Almost 98% of containers are returned. In Québec, it's even better. Only 5 cents but it applies to all bottles, even a bottle of water. The homeless pick up the trash and get money for it, the environment is cleaner as a result!

We've switched our refuse pickup schedule to once monthly. We have the medium sized can. It amazes me some on the same street have the large can, taken weekly. What the h*** do they buy so much of, that the excess (packaging I assume) fills one of those on a weekly basis!? Or, has the pickup business simply have everyone convinced "you need this", whether practical or not and everyone goes "I assume so..."I'm embarrassed by how much trash I have in a given day.
It was my wife's idea; I would have just stayed brainwashed "ya gotta have a pickup every week".
Thrifts and yardsales here in the US are great examples of "current society full of disposable crap". Most visits I leave with nothing, but there's fun in the looking.
Remember, if you run those 12V 13A supplies in a very hot case (the heatsink was still too hot to touch 20 minutes after I turned it off), replace the caps by the output.
Also, consider upgrading the diodes so they don't run as hot. - this is asking it for about 8A in a 70°C case.
Old caps were cheap 1000H, new ones are 10,000H: https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/667-EEU-FS1V102LB
Here's the diode I was thinking about - any thoughts? https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/stmicroelectronics/FERD60U45CT/4756102?s=N4IgjCBcpgbFoDGUBmBDANgZwKYBoQB7KAbRABYwBmMcgDhAMpoFYGnqwWXGLOWqIALoEADgBcoIAMriATgEsAdgHMQAXwKwAnAhDJI6bPiKk+YOtoDswsZMgz5ytZpDWI0faky4CxSGTkAAwATCw2IiASUrKKqhoEISGwHkjexn5mLEFBAAQAtgBquQACuVR5AIK2UfYgAMKEAK6iGDgAJgCqSgriAPIoALI4aFhNcjgJIAC0IXoG8k0m-mQ8QuobQA
Funny thing is the upgrades double the cost of the PSU but increase it's life almost tenfold.

I went to a Salvation Army thrift shop here the other day. They had a piano and wanted 900$ for it LMAOThrifts and yardsales here in the US are great examples of "current society full of disposable crap". Most visits I leave with nothing, but there's fun in the looking.
Granted, they sell cheap clothing that is in good nick, but they wanted 69$ for a Pioneer AV receiver missing it's knobs and no HDMI... No thanks.
I find a large problem is the fact nobody has a lot of money. Someone called it boot economics. If I can get a coffee maker for 15$ new but it might only last 3 months, it might still be cheaper to just keep buying them OR it might be all someone can afford.
"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness.[1]"

Being on a tight retirement budget, I taught myself to live within my means, and found out that I don't need to upgrade or keep up with "the Joneses" if I choose my purchases wisely.
All that continuous advertizing can make a person nuts, and broke, in debt.
The house is paid for, sure it's got older appliances, and they all work fine, I don't need "the newest" or "the latest".
To hell with that crap.
I'm quite content and have a cozy home.

I bought ten of those exact same caps about a year ago. I have two left. They are nice caps.

Oh, modern advertising makes me nuts.
It is soooooo annoying and sooooo stupid, and obviously aimed at mindless imbeciles. How does that make anyone buy their crap? It makes me want to drill my ears out. It's an insult to the intended audience.
I'm just old and different I guess. People come to my house and turn the TV on and it drives me out of my mind. It's so stupid - EVERYTHING on the TV is so stupid. Who is being targeted with this drivel? I can't wait to turn it off.
And salesmen that won't take no for an answer keep coming to my house. So rude. Guy wants to sell me windows when I obviously don't need them. I just repaired some windows and the rest are only 6 years old. I just had my screen doors repsrayed and new screens put in. They look new! But NOOOOO I need new screen doors NOW because that respray will only last 12-15 years or so.
I know this is because my house has been worked on all summer and looks great. House was power washed (in return for fixing someone's power washer) and all the nasty old bushes have been removed and stumped. It looks like a NEW 65 year old house. They just want a piece of the action but I have friends that I do stuff for and in return they do stuff for me. It's way better than money.

Eddie, that's when the MUTE button on the remote control comes in handy!Oh, modern advertising makes me nuts.

I'm not going to let advertising make ME a nutwhack job.
And mail-email advertising is also to blame.
Yesterday at home, I was busy doing chores, and the phone must have rang a dozen differernt time - all but one call to me was those robo solicitation calls.
I don't talk to robots, sorry.
4 or 5 calls asking to buy my home or if I'm interested in selling it...... nope, it'll be my tomb when I croak.
Then in my mailbox, several "let us buy your home" postcards - they go right to my paper shredder!
Several fake "electric utility" calls trying to get my billing information...
I'm certainly not a mindless gullible imbecile to fall for those things.
And no, I don't do those "survey" calls either, OR those police/fireman/veteran "donation" calls either.
They're all scams.

That's what the OFF button is for.
I get ALL the frikkin robo-calls... drives me crazy. Almost all of them are 100% scam, like the IRS scam calls that I get about 20 times a day around tax time... "You will be arrested in half an hour sir if you don't go to Walgreens and buy $5000 worth of gift cards" Sure buddy.
Police /veteran/etc "donation" calls are ALL 100% SCAMS. Not a penny will go to any veteran or policeman.
Years ago, when telephone books were a household staple, the first pages were "helpful information" content.
You know, how to dial the phone, numbers to call for service, etc...
And I remember the "tips" section, one saying: If you receive a caller and suspect it's something not of interest to you, simply hang up.
Which I do, to this day.

I don't even answer the phone. Talk to the machine.
Real people call my cell phone. Spammers and scammers call my land line. Anything important to me (like my prescription reminders) are pre recorded and I can just listen to them on the machine. EVERY time I've answered my land line I've been sorry.
Some calls are just so annoying that I pick up the receiver and slam it down. That can backfire because they'll call back again and again.. and again and again and again. It's like the phone is a weapon they wield against me. Filthy spammers and scammers.

I like to watch some TV when I'm having dinner in the kitchen.Filthy spammers and scammers.
Usually shows like CSI Miami, CSI New Orleans, etc.
I only watch the local news for the weather, or maybe some daily ghetto crime story.
I'm eating dinner, a mouthful of pasta and meatballs...... phone near the table rings....robo-call.
Or,... a TV commercial about some drug I don't need or want comes on.... shoving those drugs down my throat while I eat.
It's madness, I'm living in a virtual world of zombie-ville!
A call from an internet provider.
To sell a subscription.
_ I am not interested.
_ Who is your present provider ?
_ This is none of your business !
_ You are impolite.
End of call.

They do act like they're entitled to your attention.
My experience with sales people is that they don't even listen to you. They already know what they want to sell you. They don't even care if you want it or need it.
It must be a generational thing. I come from the "Customer is Always Right" generation. My last couple major "brick and mortar" purchases (or attempted purchases) were rude awakenings into the new society. The salesman who was showing me furniture was such a smarmy douchebag! I left in frustration but found what I wanted at TJMaxx or some overstock store anyway.
They must think I'm very impolite, not standing for their guff.
