Nobody here is a stoner, we are all just hypothesising except those who live in places where it is legal. ;-)
Ahem...of course.... That's what I meant too...
We're just hypothenusing....

*cough*

Oh look, a doggy!

I'll check out Initiation, anybody with those two as desert island albums has to be on the same wavelength.
By the way, I dunno how you feel about vinyl, but you may want to stick with Red Book for this particular title. Todd really did cram 30 minutes of music on each side of the original LP release, and needless to say the sound is compromised in that format. Here's a typically ironic quote from the inner sleeve:
"Technical Note: Due to the amount of music on this disc (over one hour), two points must be emphasized. First, if your needle is worn or damaged, it will ruin this disc immediately. Secondly, if the sound does not seem loud enough on your system, try re-recording the music onto tape. By the way, thanks for buying the album."
Thanks for the tip!Check out Steve Hillage, "Fish Rising".

You won't be sorry (Hillage). There is a remaster of "i" which is listenable on cd. The original cd was borderline unlistenable. How about Steve Hackett "Voyage of the Acolyte" and "Please Don't Touch". Send some more my way. Share 'em if you've got 'em. Don't Bogart....
Just ordered "Initiation". Love Amazon. For intensity, Magma "Live" "Mekanik Zain" will fill the bill. Always on the lookout for music that bends the universe. How about VanDerGraaf "QuietZone/Pleasure Dome"? I hope we are not spinning the thread off its course. If so, time to wake and bake.

It's a funny coincidence, but these albums from Rundgren & Moraz are two prime examples of why I don't miss vinyl. I never found listenable copies of either on LP, and I went through several of each. Granted there isn't a decent copy of Initiation to be had on LP because of the blatant abuse of the capacity. But still, I felt like I was really hearing both of these for the first time on CD. (There, I said it. 🙂 ) Also, my first CD of "I" was the Japanese import which still sounds pretty good to me. I will seek out the remaster though. (I don't usually chase remasters much, but I'll make an exception for this exceptional title.)
Love all the old Genesis stuff, been meaning to catch up with Steve Hackett. Thanks for the reminder. Let's see, if you've heard "I" then you may already know about Jon Anderson's beautiful solo album from that same period, "Olias of Sunhillow;" if not, I can highly recommend that one. Also, Stomu Yamashta's "Go" (another great one from the 70s) is really cool - kinda like Traffic meets Pink Floyd. 😎How about Steve Hackett "Voyage of the Acolyte" and "Please Don't Touch". Send some more my way. Share 'em if you've got 'em. Don't Bogart....

Does daily consumption of 1 to 3 joints a day for 20 years count as prolonged????
I would say yes, hehe. Anyway sofaspud got it right and you got it wrong, stoner! Ah you're probably missing those dead brain cells. They will never come back... sob, sob. 😛
OK seriously now, if you are dumb you'll likely get dumber (it acts like a potentiometer) but, if you're smart you may get smarter! Needless to say no drug makes miracles, though some have tried, with mixed results

**George I do realize you used my quote as a cue to enter your thoughts. Just fooling around

Yep, know both "Sunhillow" and "Go". Both excellent recommendations. Hackett is a must. Those two and "Genesis Revisited 2". "Voyage of the Acolyte" sits right next to "I" in my brain.

Statutes of limitations ahave long expired so ...
back in the 70s I used to smoke about an ounce a month, as did my friends. It certainly did make listening to music more enjoyable and was a must for concerts.
As far as Shrooms are concerned, I'd advise going light on them.
I had a bad experience around 1974. We used to collect them from cow pastures. Wash, chop, boil, strain. Add to Frozen Lime concentrate to kill (yea right) the taste.
One Saturday afternoon while enjoying the effects with friends, I was laying on the floor watching music flow from speakers when I experienced a total mental shutdown. When I came to, I didn't know who I was, where I was or who the people around me were. Fortunately, I thought "There is nothing to fear but fear itself" and just laid there until things started coming back. After a few minutes everything returned to normal (or as normal as it had been prior to the experience).
I gave up mushrooms after that for fear it might happen again and I might not be so lucky.
By the early to mid 80s there were random drug testing at work, and a family to raise. II got to where smoking pot just made me nervous and jittery so I gave it up completely.
If they ever legalize it here, I might try again, otherwise I'll just leave it alone.

Ditto the shrooms experience. For me it was the "purples". Cow crap mushrooms, boiled and spiked with something to deaden the taste. In my case it was grape Kool Aid. After the Kool Aid and a few joints, everything turned purple and all the voices came from a tunnel. I just had to get away, so I walked away from the party. Puked a few times and fell asleep in the rock quarry. Things were OK the next morning except for the ant bites and the mud. No more shrooms since then.
Never had a bad acid experience though. I kinda wish that I could have remember what happened at the infamous Doors concert where Jim allegedly did nasty things on stage.....I don't know if it happened or not, and neither did anyone I went with, but my guess is no. He was later pardoned by the Florida Governor in a publicity stunt on the 20th? aniversity of his death.
I got mine cheap because the original owner "needed money." It was sitting in a wood shipping crate when I went to see it, and he had "already sold his amp." I bought it for $600 and it worked OK but had some hiss. The hiss got worse over the first year until it was too loud to use. Turns out it had just came back from ARP for the 3rd time, and the warrantee had expired. Several calls to ARP got me in touch with a tech who told me to change the CA3080. The new one lasted a year, so I sky wired in a DIP socket and put in a plastic chip from a different vendor.....no more problems. The original metal can RCA's sucked!
I later expended it with a Little Brother, and had to show the "tech" at ACE Music how to put the CV output interface in an Odyssey he was working on.

the first synth I ever repaired was a white face Odyssey! I remember it well - had a bad 1458

The best way to cope with the mushroom taste is to use the water to make instant mushroom soup rather than trying to cover it up with some thing else.
Better to have a very mushroomy cream of mushroom soup than mushroomy grape Kool Aid.

Some tips I've heard:
Bake your weed/shake/hash/whatever at 240F for 30 minutes or so before using it, this converts THCA to THC and increases its potency. "decarboxylation" or something like that is what's it called apparently, there's lots of reading material to be found on the internet.
After that, THC is oil soluble - simmer your plant matter in butter, vegetable oil, cream, lard or other fat, this pulls the THC out of it. You can then filter the plant matter out with a fine strainer, then use the infused fat in the recipe calls for it. Don't bake above 350F or you'll boil off the THC.
Of course I'm no expert, these are just things I heard about and researched out of pure curiosity.
I have heard that there are very effective shortcuts through this science. One method, apparently, is to spread some peanut butter or Nutella (oil) onto a graham cracker, Triscuit, bread, or similar then crumble about a 1/2 teaspoon of "herb" onto the oil layer, then spread more of chosen oil layer on a second piece of bread/cracker/whatever. Then sandwich together and wrap with foil. Bake at 240F for 30 minutes. Quick, easy, no smell and extremely effective. Or so I am told.

Back in Uni, we always used the water to make hot chocolate (AKA hot cocoa) for those who disliked the taste of mushrooms. A few of us, including myself, rather enjoyed just chewing them up and chasing them with dark rum.
Ahh, those were the days....

Mushrooms, even within a specific genus can have extremely non linear psilocybin concentrations. Not to mention certain species have other alkaloids in them which basically poison you. If you guys were picking them off of cow dung then most likely they were most "liberty caps" or Psilocybe semilanceata, the most commonly found, and also one of the most potent ones.......I myself had have very profound experiences on these.....think near death like what the Gimp was saying........not for the faint of heart for sure. I personally do NOT like these either, really not pleasant. Last time I had some was at an Allman Brothers concert, I almost had to leave except there was one problem, I couldn't get up lol.
By far the most common magic mushroom found on the market is the Psilocybe cubensis. These are easy to grow and have the best effects, very colorful and fun, these make music very detailed and spiritual. Basically the best things ever🙂
Best consumption method.............Mushroom tea. Boil some shrooms, add a few fruity teabags and honey, 15 minutes later your zooted.
We gave up trying to mask them, and just ate them. Tasted bad, so what. Loosing one's entire reality is interesting. Becoming aware of a "bigger" picture is something this dark and nihilistic young man desperately needed. Laughing uncontrollably was good. Having a "spiritual guide" was good, someone who had been there and could remind me "you are going to come down". We were always into set and setting, allotting adequate time to be unavailable to the world. Never tripped at a party. Always treating it as a sacrament.
Hahahaha yes just biting the bullet and chewing is the only way to go. BTW if you are in Amsterdam you can buy them as fresh fruit which is more pleasant to eat. LSD in small amounts can be fine for normal "parties", but I have to agree with mushrooms it's a sacrament. Set and setting is key, think campfire with good friends and some hand drums and guitars, there is always a few "heads" around to help lead the journey to and from the other world. I always felt like I was the one who would do this, I have talked a lot of people down.
Over here 'shrooms are legal only as long as you eat while you pick.
The moment you take them home or do anything else with them before ingesting they are now a class A drug, same as heroin or crack.
20 odd years ago you could legally pick them and take 'em home.
Back then I went picking once with a couple of mates. We got interrupted by a police officer but despite knowing exactly what we were up to he was only interested in the burned out motorbike we had passed on our way to the picking site.
A few minutes after he had left the elderly caretaker (we picked in the grounds of a mental asylum) came over asking us what we were doing.
Before we could answer he told us that we were looking in the wrong place and pointed us somewhere else within the grounds.
He was right: We collected over 2000 'shrooms in under an hour!
I don't remember much of the following 2 weeks.
PS: They were Liberty Caps btw.

This thread is meandering....But being that we're here...In the past I have eaten a few things I shouldn't have...this was the worst. Datura stramonium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I didn't see things differently while under it's effect I saw things that weren't happening. Not at all pleasant.

Bringing it back around, our system was a B&O turntable, Crown amp and preamp, and Klipsch Cornwall speakers. Sounded pretty mighty fine. I like my F5, Aikido pre and Maggie 1.6's better, but haven't experienced it in that frame of reference.😀
I've heard a lot of bad stories about thorn apple (Datura) seeds. Easily enough to put me off ever trying.
A mate of mine tried them while on holiday in Greece. Shortly after he thought it might be a good idea to swim to Africa. The locals who rescued him (the same ones who gave him the seeds in the first place) had to knock him out cold otherwise he'd have jumped off the boat and continued swimming south.
