If I'm feeling down these days, I typically put on something that reminds me of my blissful time as a young child. Anything that takes me back to the mid to late 70s makes me smile. Much of it is older than the 70s because my parents and grandparents were usually choosing the music.
For example, I cannot listen to "Flowers on the Wall" by The Statler Brothers without tapping my foot and singing along with a ridiculous grin on my face.

I did a long stretch of "Hounds of Love" (Kate Bush) when it came out. I didn't win anything for my stretch of Comfortably Numb, but I'm still on the planet, does that count?

I can sort of relate.
I once spent 4 days and nights in a row, in various states of consciousness, listening to The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking. It was a bad time in my life, but I came out the other end of it. Alive.
Looking back, I think it might have been only 2 days if I had chosen another artist.

Oh, man... That was a good long laugh, thanks. Roger is obviously a brilliant guy, but he could maybe lighten up a little every once in awhile. 🙂

The Dreaming had the same effect on me. It was the first of Kate I'd ever heard, and I was instantly mesmerized. It was also one of many albums that for me has left an indelible mark on the season from when I first binged on it (early autumn). So, most every year on the first chilly rainy late September weekend, into the queue it goes.
You tell us, heh.I didn't win anything for my stretch of Comfortably Numb, but I'm still on the planet, does that count?

Jump forward twenty years or so, and Shrek pulled me through. Yea, I'm pretty glad I'm still around. Got amplifiers to finish. 98% done with Cubie, then on to an F4 driven by a flea power S.E.T. with Russian sweep tubes. All the boards are stuffed, have to afford some transformers and build the case. Then on to the Honey Badger. Boards are stuffed. Case is 85% there. Then the second F4 with a BA-3 front end. Boards are stuffed, good to have amplifiers to take my mind off of stuff. I saw Kate on Saturday Night Live way back in the day, looking hot wearing leotards and laying on a grand piano. Been a fan ever since.
Ohhh, weed and music, that's what the thread was about !
And Floyd, my first love. I wish you have the original LPs and a decent (?!) setup
'cos it's all related to sanity !
Yesterday a man was on his studio open to the street and there was TDSOTM
playing from YT from 3 W pc speakers.
NO, let's get back to sunday 'noon : some friends at home and I put The Joushua Tree...you know Castaneda's followers...and the ambush theory 🙄
So I landed on the groove of Bullet The Blue Sky at max volume
The girl was closing her ears with the fingers...the man said: Oh, the LP is so different.
Same for PF: I would never put some YT videotune for more than 5 minutes, it just drives me crazy, really.
"the brain recontructs what's missing", yeah, extra work ...

I don't know finally getting kinda Burnt out on excessive clipping/distortion's, I want/Need to Relax/slow down, work on a lot of Clean's/cleaner guitar stuff etc haha, That's weird man, Rock/Metal-heads going clean and stuff and all haha.
Yeah, Floyd and all.
But if we get into Floyd its definitely gotta get into "The Wall" I can relate to so much of that destruction.
The movie is a brilliant fictional depiction of psychotic breakdown. I particularly like the song, "Comfortably numb" as I think it describes both the sense of "relief" that has come from withdrawing from the world and the temporary relief of sedation, "I can ease your pain, get you on your feet again."
"I...I....I have become comfortably numb."

Yeah, been out of mind numerous times watching the movie, When I was younger etc haha, Bob Geldof did such a hell of a job you know. A lot of that is so real like though..and can very well transpire/great example of how Psychosis/psychotic episodes/breakdown's can be. I felt a hell of a lot like that for a good Solid Year for sure. Then finally snapped out of it/no where near as bad now. Just occasional more minor Hallucination's/Psychotic State's, It's more now of the just you know Instability like with Emotion's/personality, trying to find balance. It's something else with me though..There was always something there/something wrong/not quite right, prior- waay before the Substance's/getting into that, but yeah I know all too well how it can get with the Psychedelic's/Stimulant's for sure. It's really Hard to Explain.

I don't think I ever heard this Soundtrack or the Movie itself, is it all Pink Floyd?
Indeed. Most of these so-called professionals are trained to simply get people hooked on something that some corporation can profit from. True help comes from those who actually care. I think it is inappropriate to discourage people who care.
I take my aluminum hat off for so much wisdom.

This is probably good advice, it is easy to get caught up in submerging yourself in other peoples hell as its easy at the time to relate to them. Perhaps in small doses it is good. The principal of Universality, one of the main principles of group therapy, is the idea of a problem shared is a problem halved, that you are not alone in this experience, unfortunately you cannot have a conversation with a song!
In the main relaxing music, whatever does that for you is probably best, music is such a personal thing so no one but you really knows what works for you.

Listening is fine. Amateur psychopharmacology from people with absolutely no clue isn't.
True
Which often translates these days to people who need to maintain a good revenue stream, to support a lifestyle to which they're accustomed ...
In the medical field, one thing that has stood out, for me, about "professionals", specialists, is that they have generally been useless - substantially more money paid for minimal or zero value, and, as a special bonus, a side serving of lots of attitude ... bedside manner was obviously not covered in their course work ... 🙂.
Pretty much the same as professional engineers then.....

Music is definitely very important for my sanity, I can usually tell I'm going downhill when I stop listening to music. At these times I need to prescribe myself a cumpulsary treatment regime involving music and meditation / relaxation ( perhaps not for everyone ). My whole reason for being here, as in diyaudio.com is in the pursuit of my own sanity! Talking electronics and music, is much better than most conventional prescriptions, at least for me anyhow.

I know that's how it's suppose to be..but sharing/telling all those Personal things..You realize how difficult/powerful/conjuring back all those memories/flashback's/reliving numerous experiences etc...it's so hard/hurts/so much pain/sadness damn near have to encompass it/embrace it etc, I can't hardly do it. Discussing anything like that, remotely in a therapy situation..oh my God I can't handle it mentally..I have always had this closed off/withdrawn mind in a way. I know it's not healthy, I know.

The only true road to happiness is become a hard core esoteric audiophile, then you will have to spend all your time tweaking your system because it will grate your senses as the music screeches out of your speakers, you can then spend many a happy hour discussing the minutiae of audio reproduction, the sound of caps, cables resistors and PCB solder resist colour. You will be able to drool enviously at the $100,000 dollar systems knowing that, as some Guru's will tell you, you cannot even experience audio nirvana on cheep systems and if you cant hear a difference your system and probably your hearing in flawed.
Me I just roll a fat one, open a can and turn the volume up to 11😀

Life has a lot of pain in it, the down times let us appreciate the up times.....
All too True, I can appreciate the up times very much, but still feels mostly being in those down times for now.
