Russell, I had a touch too much hum on my build as well. This is with very efficient horn speakers and a cheap Ebay switcher. As I said in a previous post I just added some more capacitance after the switcher much as Nelson has done of some of his projects using a switcher and lowered my hum to an acceptable level. Why not give it a try first. Something in the neighborhood of 1500uf to 2200uf caps.

That doesn't look like a switcher?

Your correct, regulated PS. Two brain farts of late.
Only one fatality in surgery, one of the 10 poof caps lost a leg. 6l6, gotta part number?
going through all my parts, none this small. found some 680 poofers, I'm pretty sure I have some 100 poof caps but cant find. I better look at amazon or ebay for small quantity. What Am I looking for, ceramic or what? 50 volt, 100 volt or ?
I could have these in 10 days:
Jameco Valuepro MD10-VP-R Monolithic Radial Ceramic Capacitor, 10 pF Capacitance, 50V, Epoxy Dipped Case (Pack of 40): Amazon.com: Gateway
Thanks,
Russellc
Whoops, that's 2 days. Ordered correct one from mouser along with some other items.

Hi Jim, sent you a PM yesterday for a set of boards.
thanks
@6L6
Hope you received my PM for a pair of these boards last week.
thanks
I've received many PM from interested people for the PCBs. I have not yet responded to anybody.
Again, if you are interested I'm currently forming a list;
I have the last batch of the purple PCBs that Wayne had made. There are about 50 stereo sets. I will send a set to anybody interested if you pay shipping.
If interested send me a PM with -

They will fit in a standard envelope so I suspect shipping won't be all that much.

6L6, Jim, Do you have a BOM on the parts you used in your kit for the users of just the boards? I have a friend that has contacted you on some boards asking me for a BOM and I would like to use the same parts you used in the kits you sold earlier.
.....if so perhaps you can put an attachment in this forum? Many thanks for your already sterling work across the DIYaudio building scene. I am sure that many would not have ventured into diy without your guidance.
Russell, what kind of transformer are you using?

Would like to see this also...

Just some input for others... Mouser carries a board edge mount similar to those mentioned earlier. The part number is 761-30468-N. You can use them either on the corners or on the edges.

Even Nelson has said there is a lot of variances in Toroid's. Have you tried placing the toroid far away, outside the case, and see if you still have the hum? There is a member on this forum who had a bad hum on a M2 build. He spent a lot of time and money before moving the transformer outside the case. It was the toroid causing the hum.

I actually had it dead quiet. Then did the cap swap 6l6 noted. Killed a cap, should have replacements any day. Must have had a bad solder joint which surprised me....generally very careful, but there you have it! I mean there was no hum, stone dead quiet.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I have not seen anything.
Has anybody compared the sound of Wayne's BA 2018 linestage directly against BA3FA linestage?

Yes. I like the Wayne better, but I’ll be hard pressed to say why. But I do
Also remember it’s not really an apples to apples comparison, the BA3 has much more gain

Do you think audible noise can be reduced by using this kind of resistors in pre-amps?

I never see them in any pre-amp projects but they are made for the purpose?
