Why not just use dsp to add distortion? No heat and the ability it tailor it exactly how one wants it. Seems like ordering a $200 aged wagyu steak and covering it with A-1 steak sauce.
You do realize that world doesn't revolve around you? You are entitled to your opinion, to your own subjective feelings of everything around you. But not everyone is you, in fact, no one is you but you. There are so much different tastes out there, and so many different people, hell, people like pineapple over pizza, i myself don't like it, but i damn love that it exists cuz my friend likes it. But getting back to, class d is perfect for coloration, it is a blank slate sort of, so you can adjust your system if you like syrup or you can leave it as it is better than with any device put there. This right here is syrup, and a lot of people love syrup 🙂

The goal was to use a tube preamp for 1et400a board. Tone control i do not use on my setup. And yes there are other ways to ad harmonics and change slew rate.
I honestly wasn't trying to be rude. English isn't my primary language so i basically translate in my head 😁 Exactly, there are numerous ways. I liked how nutube "muddies" my water 😅 This seems as an interesting project as well. If there is a rev that adds volume control to this buffer, i might give it a go due to tube rolling.

Do you have any recommendations for DSP to recreate tube sound? I haven't heard any that I enjoyed.
Funny though, how one person can love a fillet and I wouldn't be seen dead ordering one. A ribeye for me.
This is exactly what makes the Purifi so great for my use cases and why they're my favourite amps at the moment. I need 150w+ for my speakers and I won't be building a 1000V+ Set AMP that weighs 100kg and could be used to heat the town. Although I do own a PSE 6c33c that does put out 45w and sounds great, but too dangerous with kids. Much cheaper and efficient to use a Purifi as buffer, driven by a multitude of pre-amp that are often far less expensive than an amplifier build. One day you can listen to a massive sounding DHT amp (300b,10y etc tube pre), next day an IDHT, then a simple single ended class A design with again big power and even throw in a discrete class A pre. Choose whatever suits your music taste.
I much prefer my tube pre-amp in front of the purifi amp's than without, but that's what suits my room/music tastes etc

can we use the tap on SMPS1200 from hypex? or do we need an external psu to power the buffer?
You do need a separate power supply for the tube stage. For a lot of people this is very important so they can choose between linear or smps supply.

Is there are reason beyond offering options that you offered up a version that uses 5687 tubes?
Incidentally I am still looking for a good source to buy a few JST B06P-VL PCB connectors. Everybody that I have contacted here in the states has zero inventory
