Without reading that whole thread....can I ask why you wouldn't flush mount? I'm not using the same drivers, but...I never saw any reason flush mounting anything wouldn't be the best way, but especially mid/high.Nice PAP build @FastTimes and did you do flush mounting for the Eminence woofers? Seems like when I was following the SBAF thread it was recommended not to flush mount any of the drivers and specifically was told to mount the Eminence woofers from behind and the TB driver from the front as you can see in my build. Not sure how much of an effect this will do but I like the woofers mounted from behind and never heard them flush mounted.
Also curious to know how did you get the angled wings? Any specific dimensions or just an angle to make sure that the speakers do not tilt?
thanks
As I'm about to build some new baffles...maybe I should be reading more about this...
I've only come across one pair of full range drivers that benefitted from rear mounting. Not sure if it was a little front cavity resonance, or a slight add to the mass of air in front of the 12" papar driver smoothing the overall response, but it was specific to the size of the roundover in front, and the depth of the recess.
Even I am not too sure other than following the build and did not want to experiment myself. But to my limited understanding not sure if its meant for time aligning the woofers with the full rangers. Just a thought.Without reading that whole thread....can I ask why you wouldn't flush mount? Here are Lii S-10's in a stone open baffle powered by a 300B amp.
Sound great!

On the PAP discussion thread on SuperBestAudio, a fellow quotes Ze'ev (owner of PAP) that it makes "no difference whatsoever"...maybe his opinion has changed now, or not.Even I am not too sure other than following the build and did not want to experiment myself. A lot of folks like the rear mount look (myself included).
Zsolt from the lowther modification group. He also makes upgrade Cones for Voxativ, Lowther, AER etc.Do you guys know who makes these drivers in Serbia? Suppose to be better sounding then Voxativ

I'm feeling very tempted to pull the trigger on some of his drivers, even though I'm pretty darn happy with the ones I have...
I replaced Lii fast 8s with the Sonido SWR200-8 field coils in my 2 way OBs. The Sonidos are in a whole other class.
Beyma tpl 150 vs great heil vs raal 70-20 dipole fountek neocd3.0 for crossover above 4000
So, I'm just finishing up my baffles and the truth is that the hugeness of the heil is causing the looks to be compromised, which matters because they are in my living room.
I'm considering going in a different direction. I like crossing over around 5000 (project not done so not set in stone).
I would like to hear any and all opinions. I'm not dead against keeping the heil if ppl convince me spending thousands is a sideways move.

Use this instead of Heil. It is 4 X 8 " though.

I have TPL-150H with open back. Ivery much like it, but I xo at 1.2kHz. It's a tall tweeter that brings its set of co.promises. If I were crossing at 4kHz I would probably use a smaller AMT/ribbon.
Yes, I think it's not the ideal candidate in every way, but I'm very attracted to it. How is it's performance over 10k? I'm reading trying to confirm what I thought i saw, which is that it's improved without the back.
I'm finding very few options for smaller tweets, just the neo 3 I guess.
There's a satori that looks nice but I don't think the back can be removed.

Response drops above 15k or so. I like it better without the back.
Radian LT2.2 or 3.2 would be in my list. But then I would also consider Radian LM10n as midrange, in OB too. The designer, Igor Levitsky, implemented these in the Consonus speaker. You can find reviews of those drivers at Audioexoress - just google search for them. I have not heard these drivers, though. But I very much like the sound of the TPL and the Radians would allow to get down to 500Hz or so and mitigate the drawbacks of a tall tweeter.
Raal must be a great tweeter too.

Mundorf?
Never heard one myself, but I do get that the ESS is a big bugger, and it seems a shame to cross it over so high. The smallest Mundorf seems to be right on your target. What's the rest of the system like?
I have heard RAAL's on a few occasions and they were spectacular, but man that's a lot to spend on those top two octaves.

Yeah I think that mundorf, which I have had before, is the smartest choice. To be honest, after a year I'm so close to having the metal frames and wood fronts finished and I really don't want to wait 5+ weeks.
I decided to try and keep the heils for now, as I do really like them.
I decided to try them with the mid above the tweeter.
Still not totally decided about the raal, but I think if it's not the raal I should just stick with the heil. I've always wanted the raal. But yeah, $2500 cdn is a lot...compared to the heil I already own.
Rest of the system is a sonido field coil wideband which I'm supplementing with a JBL 123a midwoofer (soon to be replaced by another sonido intended for that position) and a Bianco 18", and a tweeter.
This is what I mocked up today. I can aim the baffles as I please, and the top two drivers are intended to point directly at my ears. (It's going to be triangle shape when done)
