Hi again..

For the past days i compared my two Vssa1.7 amps :
Version 1 : Dual mono supply with 2x 225Va standard open toroid and standard 2x60000uF Nichicon capbank, Heatsink 0.25C/W pr.modul.. (This version has been my first choise over Hypex Ucd400HXR, Holton HPA-nxV200L R2 Dual Die, Passlabs XA30.5)
Version 2 : 500Va Encapsulated shielded transformer and 2x100000uF Rifa PEH200 capbank, Heatsink 0.25C/W pr.modul..

At the same time my friend brought his Aussie NXV300 mono-blocks, and Nelsson Pass XA30.5 class A amp..

And no doubt, together with the Low ESR Rifa supply and 500Va Encapsulated shielded transformer, this is the most 'quiet' amp i ever heard, the bass is fast, accurate and deep, the midrange and top is detailed and crisp, Female and male vocals were outstandingly real and present, Lifelike is the word..
To me this is music.

So next step is upgrading my version 1 Vssa1.7 to 4pcs Rifa PEH169 47000uF caps and 2pcs 500Va Encapsulated toroid, real dual mono supply, and then compare to my version 2 Vssa1.7 again, next time without Aussie and Pass, they are totally outdated on performance..

Regards Michael.

Sonny,

Do you have the speaker protection ready for purchase? Some pictures? :D

Thanks
Do

I wanted to do a non intrusive current measurement as well. I think i have found an solution for this. It uses a hall element for this.
The DC protection part will have a corner frequency of 0.5Hz.

The overcurrent trip current can be set as well as allowed DC offset.

0 - 75A max, 10 - 100mV offset voltage.

I Think This is not done before.

The range if the dc offset is set to max 100mV and most AMP should be able to keep within This level.

I will try, but i only have cellphone pictures.. I just started disassembling now, because the chassis is up for spraypaint this weekend..

By the way, when mounting the amp stage, i used som 4mm aluminium piece that measures 65x30mm, to insure that the mosfets reaches full contact all over, when driving in Class A mode...

To update my review from earlier today :

The biggest difference between Version 1 standard supply, Aussie and Pass and my favorite Vssa1.7 version 2(Rifa low esr/esl supply) : The most quiet amp i ever heard means : no noise in the tweeters, and when music playing in slow/simple passages, the background is more then black/quiet..
In the bass region, the bass intruments is more recognizable, more accurate, clean and fast, the musicians is easy to place on the stage..

These moduls deserves the best powersupply you can afford, each upgrade awards you in performance..

I hope you all understand my rubbish english, i think describing sound is'nt easy..

Good Morninng..

I just started upgrading my Version 1 Tssa 1.7..
4x47000uF Rifa PEH169 and Sonny's softstart module, unfortunately the incapsulated toroids still isnt arrived...
I made som plastic/Nylon nuts for Rifa caps, they measure Ø50mm, and have an 25mm recess with an height of 2mm, to insure they dont have any contact with the chassis..

No doubt, low esr/esl caps is an big upgrade instead of standard caps. Go for it..
TIP : If you have big Heatsinks, there is a lot to win by driving bias at 1Amp instead of 400mA.. A lot more detailed in midrange and top....

Some pictures is attached..

BL drive module v1.1

Finally it is here. I am very sorry for the long delay.. But there was some design choices i had to make.

I was standing in front of two choices.

1) Discrete solution, with an power consumption in excess of 10 watt in total. only 2 layer PCB, and raising the price because of complexity.

or

2) Using state of art low noise voltage regulators and opamp in a 4 layer PCB for optimum working condition. On top of that smaller PCB and lower price.

I have choosen the last one.

We have choosen the most transparent opamp we can get together with the best ultra Low noise regulators with +60dB PSRR up to several 100KHz.

Key data on the module:

  • 70x50mm
  • 4 Layer PCB
  • +/-24VDC - +/-60VDC supply voltage
  • 2.4Watt power consumption at +/-60VDC
  • Low noise thin film resistor in 0.1% tolerance
  • 1nF load drive
  • +6dB gain

The board price is fallen to 75€/channel for BL drive module, and it will and is very transparent.

Not only can it be used with the TSSA V1.7 but with every other amp you wish to bridge.

The first modules will arrive friday.

An picture is attached.

We will within short time have Noratel toroid transformer with potted center hole 500VA 2x25VAC (2x115VAC mains input ) in stock.

They will cost 89€.

The weight of these beauties is 4.2kg.

Hi, i have an confirmed price of 89€. The factory price was higher (It is basicly sold without any advance at all), so i have two prices.

Previous and current TSSA owner can buy the toroid for 89€/pcs.
In future kits it will be sold for 89€ as part of the kits.

For other customers the price is 129€.

I need to know how many is interested. There is 6 weeks delivery time on them. It is prepayment. as we have no advance on them for TSSA customers.
