Troels Gravesen Ellipticor-3

Yes, I will probably buy the kit in 3 weeks time... so I have still time to read and explore. Waiting till my NEXT4 reaching they´r new owner.
Here is my NEXT4 project (sold):
NEXT4 DIY Loudspeaker Project - YouTube

For the CNO-4 I would consider an external amplifier for the woofer section, there is beeen so much talk about plate amplifiers and their unreliability.... looking to what people do around here, it seems most of guys use external amps also for subwoofers rather than plate amps

I am getting keen now, will check if there is any way to get Panserholz in Norway 😛

Yes, this time CNO4 is going full ballistic.. Panzerholz all all around. I have wild kids you see 😉

Good luck moving it ;-), Baltic birch that Troels uses in his designs is pretty vibration free to be honest, I can't see the need for a 100% Panzerholz build.

Why not make a large plinth for them out of Panzerholz that they can be bolted to and splash out on some really good outriggers instead (index perhaps?). Would be more stable, cheaper and not a bitch to cut the Panzerholz 🙂

Well, there is definitely no need of such an enclosure... But who is talking about need?!! 🙂 I am doing it because it's fun! Trying to reach some kind of ultimate enclosure is always a motivator for me... But, alas, it is completely and utterly ridiculous, I admit. Plus, the speaker I most enjoy in the munich high end, the kawero classic are using it so.... Again a motivator.
Weight is really is a problem... I think I will have to make them out of two enclosures like yg acoustics Hailey

Both the Ellipticor-3 and CNO-4 has clearly inspirations from Richard Vandersteen, who has sgtrategic goal of having zero baffle designs, basically fully eliminating the baffle, for better imaging. These designs do not fully employ this to the extreme Vandersteen does but it is not so far away, see below (well it is not actually fully zero baffle)

Just to state that I’m not sure any of Troels designs are exceptional with regards to imaging.

Panzerholz is a product of the company DELIGNIT, some one can order a sheet of this material with the help of a wood seeling shop in Germany. 1.75 x 1.75 about 120 kg (25 mm). Transport problem?
Cutting is makeble, may be it is a good idea to stock more than 1 saw blade. The mentioned sheet will set you back 1500 Euro, may be more. For glueing DELIGNIT recommends 2-components adhesives (e.g. polyurethane). I used standard wood glue, 3 years after building the speakers (Klang&Ton TODO) are still bullet proof. Surface is pretty ugly, I used veneer. Took me 1 year for building, I am not able to say, if it sounds better, because I have nothing to compare. Why? Just to use the best material available for DIY.
cheers
Helmut

Actually I listen to my music via the Elsinores, no Panzerholz, just Beech, extremely nice, fantastic imaging. May be, I will build another pair using Panzerholz, that will lift the weight of one speaker in direction of 100 kg. No veneer, I going to paint them. Time will show.

Thanks a lot @HelmutHolz, I have had very hard time finding any retailers.
Maybe there are some wood shops in Norway that will be able to make some orders.

Pricing is pretty hefty but if we want to go with the best possible thing, I am pretty confident it's worth it. Cabinet resonances and vibrations is something you don't hear until it's actually gone, and then you are shocked, right? 😛

There is one commercial loudspeaker producer over here that swear by using Valchromat, it is less extreme I believe but still quite hefty, MUCH lower price than panzerholz

Still a 2440 x 1830 mm sheet in 30 mm thickness weigh in at 96.4 Kg.

Valchromat info

Valchromat data sheet

I found:
19.0 x 2440 x 1220 mm at £ 137.90 ex vat
30.0 x 2440 x 1220 mm at £ 179.49 ex vat

Nice to know that they have fantastic imaging. Elsinore is a great speaker, I asked about vertical polar plot and received an interesting answer. Any comparisons?

I don't like to write to much off topic in this threat.
I sold my Dynaudio Confidence 5, the Elsinores bettered them not only by a small margine. But I sold the Dynaudios also due to the possible use of Elsinores with amplifiers with less than 10 W.
In a smaller room I use Klang&Ton NADA, also the Klang&Ton TODO.
In my large room, 60m², also Pass OB with slot loaded bass, Cube Audio Magus. The last will be available in the near future.

Cool... I might be reconsidering Elsinores instead of CNO-4

I got some updated prices on Panzerholz B15, expensive... but it's not that insane
2130 x 1000 x 25mm = 617€, weight 75 Kg
2130 x 1000 x 30mm = 736€, weight 90 Kg
2555 x 1440 x 25mm = 1035€, weight 107 Kg
2555 x 1440 x 30mm = 1233€, weight 129 Kg
