Mainly because nearly all components are through hole, easy to work on.

Yes we seem to have gone full circle and back to one of the first designs. With documented mods on the above link it sure gives us a head start on improving this little amp.

Super glue or epoxy are too strong to be dismantled . The silicon glue breaks very easily. There is liquid metal past to conduct both heat and electric for grounding the thermal pad , It cost minimum 18$ , but precautions must be taken not to short the pins and of course to fix the heat sink with grounding screws.

Some components are SMD that aren't in the listing. The resistors nearest the outputs for instance are SMD. At least the caps and gain setting R are still all through hole.
This maybe is more Yellow/ black board as they have swapped a lot of the blue caps!
I'll try to listen to it soon

I've got one of those yellow/blue/black TPA3116D2 and as far as I can tell, it sounds the same as the blue/black I have.
Is it a recent purchase? price? ebay/ali links please...

Hi, mates. Having and compared marantz sr6400, tpa3255 and tda 7498 boards see no further interest in tpa3116 due lack of sound quality. Perhaps my tpa3116 board have not ideal topology however other budget boards deliver better results with Canton SC-L speaker

gain should be set to 20dB ! and change the output coils. i am happy with mine 😉

The TPA3116 chip is the gasoline you buy at the station. The PCB and components around it are the car you put the fuel in. So, if you put Shell V-Power into your Lada, it will still stink and never drive like my Ferrari, even if we fill up with the same fuel at the same station.
So your comment is nonsense if you don´t post a picture or description of your specific amp, powered by a TPA3116 and its power supply.
Some TPA3116 implementations sound excelent, used in the right way, powered by a well suited supply.

Oh, sorry mates. I noticed that especially mine tpa3116 board topology weaker than others budget friendly items based on tpa3255&tda7498 chips. I am not in position yet to dive deeper with coils&gains changes, just comparing out of the box. However even this tpa3116 sounding far better of many oldschool AB amps. Here is the photos of mone

Your two chip 3116 seems to have output coils with too much uH for it´s size. Such 330 will have a far greater resistance than the "normaly" neccesary coils with 100. Depends of the load you drive, of course. So if one may make a prediction from the picture, your chip amp should suffer from some missing "umpf" in the lower frequncy, weak loudspeaker control and distortion with higher volume.

that red board looks like a dual chip version. try to read my thread and set the gain down! --> 20db..its not so difficult.

change the coils like turbowatch2 wrote to 10µH--"100". then its sounding fine.power supply not to high...chekc the ratings on the caps..about 24-34V should be ok. max is 36V so keep 2 Volts less then that.

Chris, I tried this tpa3116 board with Canton SC-L and B&W Rock solid monitors both are 8Hom resistance and low frequency are quite well pumped with 19V/7A adaptor brick from LCD monitor, even with 19V/4A I see not significant difference. Perhaps will read how to reduce gain and replace coils since you're voted for better performance after twiking. Have no idea why China's masters won't do proper design out of the box.... And yes, this board is double chip with bridged chips. Actually I have two boards. BTW ,is it possible to make them works as double bridge mode getting two voards in mono for LR channel s?

It is my understanding from the data sheets that the absolute maximum supply for the TPA311x chips is 30V
I would say that most people run them at 24V or lower and if you wish to push them and be safe then operate at a couple of volts less than the 30V of absolute maximum.
