Remember, this is a digital chip working at very high frequencies, it needs digital power-supply bypassing.
Through hole for gain and other user selectable parameters is fine, nay great for DIY but NOT power-supply!
Those OrangeDrop looking caps are pretty but they physically and electrically CANNOT address digital high frequencies.
And see how the main PS caps are sideways! The long leads to the ground plane would swamp any low-ESR caps you're using?!?! This designer is trying to seduce the DIYer with audiophoolery, NOT follow proper digital design procedures.

Correction. I goof up the calculation. The international shipping cost is actually fair bit higher. Please check the Mistertao.com to work out the revised cost if you are interested.
Regards,
They accumulate some orders e.g up to 30 ~ 50 pieces or more than direct place the lot order to supplier for save the local logistic cost.
Therefore, the processing and delivery time is very long, may be over 1 or 2 months for oversea buyer.
This price is very very attractive ! even i'm located in Hong Kong.
We can freely to buy those items form Taobao directly, but shipping costs is high. Due to shipped by express from China to Hong Kong.

xrk,
Actually, I check the Mister Tao (TB agent) link on the charges and it is actually quite good! There is no mark up on the price, only a 8% commission which I think is fair. Here is the break down:
Amp price (14.43 US$) + domestic shipping + commission(8%)+ international shipping ==> total 19.91 US$ with China registered air mail or 20.40 US$ using Singapore Post air mail (which is faster).
Regards,
Just calculated this, Total cost $19.91 or $20.4 Shipped by Registered Air Mail to oversear. This is 100% impossible! Even I'm located in Hong Kong!

Finally put my Meanwell 24v 150w PS back with my 3116 at20v. I had been using a Pyramid 12v linear supply since my SLA battery charger died. The Meanwell performs just as excellently as it did when I used it with my first TPA, the 3100D2.
Don't know why I waited so long to get it back in. Too many projects going on I guess. The 3116 has never sounded better. The slight upper treble sharpness I had before is gone and everything just sounds better. The YJ blue board is terrific.
I got my Meanwell at Jameco. They have a large selection. Highly recommended.

That is a sweet little box with tone controls. I know tone controls may be a four letter word to some but as a compact put in your pocket 50w amp I think this is a great product. Cased and with knobs for $20. This is the NEW much improved Lepai 2020 replacement. Just need someone like Parts Express to buy 10,000 of them and sell them for $29.95 ea in the us. They would sell like hot cakes.

As I pointed out in an earlier post, I goofed up the international shipping. After I got my initial #, I figured that it was too good to be true. Then I noticed I miscalculated something (the weight). I think the actual price is probably 10$ more. Have to know the exact weight to obtain the exact number.
The fact that TB has a much wider choice of these "little" electronic products (as compare to EBAY and Aliexpress) available is very appealing. In many cases, you cannot get the item you want from any other places. I do not think it is a total waste of time.
If an item is available at EBAY and TB and the total coast is similar, no question I will get it form EBAY. Even though the price At EBAY is a little higher, I will still get it from EBAY.

If someone can figure out how to order one, I'll try it!
Try the following you will be surprised, most domestic speakers require very little in the way of amplifier powerI've read 3 threads on these amps and don't think I've seen the answer I'm looking for. But most of it was way over my head and I may have done some skimming.
So we all know these amps are amazing and sound great. But what is a realistic speaker, watt and ohm wise that the 3116 will drive? It's rated for 50w X 2 at 4ohms I believe. If 1 amp is used per speaker does it double the output? If I use 2 amps can I get my 150w rms 4ohm speakers to sound the way they are supposed to?
For my case in specific, I am referring to the event 20/20 if it matters
Jumbo Sunshade, Music Gear Review - Event 20/20 Passive Studio Monitors
Thanks so much once again.

Page 11 gives the best explanation of the arithmetic.

I've been avoiding the 2.1 boards at this stage, but do they really sound significantly worse? This certainly looks interesting
Has anyone tried K40Y9 PIOs as input caps on a TPA3116 board, came across a couple of 1uF ones in my random parts box and wondered about giving them a bash to replace the 1uF big blue box caps on my YJ blue board.

Interesting - let us know how the paper in oil (PIO) cap works out. One can really diy something with thin wax paper and aluminum foil rolled up. It would take about 1 square meter of area if you roll it to use both sides of the foil to get about 1uF. Pretty big suckers. Might be fun though.

You should try it! I'm using some big paper/foil 1uF caps on mine and it made a very nice & noticeable improvement. This board is easy and fun to upgrade.
Also try upgrading the elytics. I'll also be adding the Bourns inductors like the set I added to my YJ 3116 red board .

Yep, they're almost half the length of the board 😀. Will need to give some thought to how I mount them.

The reason I went for the blue board was the high number of through hole parts that could be tweaked/upgraded. Might need to source some nicer inductors and electrolytics.
Here I am not having had the amp running for more than a week and already I'm planning on tweaking it 😛.
I think that could be right to suggest to YuanJing, or some other factory, to sell a true-hole board with only smd (chip and bypass caps smd) soldered in and nothing else 😀😀😀

Bring, bring, Mr Tao?
I also see a ferrite bead output filter 🙂
This weekend, I assembled a little amp with a stock (no mods) blue YJ board.
One thing I've noticed that's kind of weird: with the amp connected to my speakers, powered on, but the input not connected, there is a slight but audible whitenoise/hiss coming through. This also happens if the inputs are connected, but the input source is powered off. My input source is a DAC. If the DAC is simply turned on (even with no actual audio signal), the hiss goes away.
Also, and this may be related, with the tpa3116 amp: if I power it on or off without any input, it produces a loud POP from the speakers (I can see the woofers visibly move, kinda scary). But if the input (DAC) is connected and powered on, then the pop is minimized or non-existent when powering the amp on or off.
Just had a quick look at my blue board. I think YJ omitted resistors from the input to GND (ground reference resistors). If right the effect will be gone if you use let's say 100 kOhm resistors over your input connectors. So from input to GND, one 100 kOhm resistor at each channel.
So, again if i am not mistaking, the same effect will be seen when a volume potentiometer is used.
I put 100k ohm resistors across the inputs. The hiss does seem somewhat diminished, but still clearly there. Not to mention, the loud pop (and woofer movement) when power is connected/disconnected.
Any other ideas? Anyone else getting this with their YJ blue board?
I was looking at my YJ blue board tonight, and noticed this "blemish" on the board. Look at the center of the picture, the area of the board bordered by two inductors and the blue capacitors. Looks like something leaked onto the board. I don't think I was eating while I built this. 🙂
Could one of those caps have leaked? Could this be related to the no-input-hiss problem described above?
