The Well Tempered Master Clock - Building a low phase noise/jitter crystal oscillator

Thank you Andrea for the inputs:

so the crystal Fs choice depends on the needs of the slaved source if we want avoiding a diviser chip for the MCLK and BCLK mostly ? So that's why I choosed for the other crystals the 22/24 M hz family: because the futur streamer : certainly for me an Amareno as few device on the market can be slaved ! But for our old TDA here the input will be accepted in a x4 oversampled mode (5.6 x 4 = 22.xx).

So, it stays to me to understand if a material upsampled in a computer with a software (and I don't understand if the embeded clock of the computer is involved by this process in relation to its quality?) then played at NOS fhz (5.9 M hz) is better than a oversampled hardware mode with higher crystal Fhz which is at the end divided by a device (74xxx chip) before the dac chip if we want to stay in NOS mode or accepted as it is without division because the oversampling acceptance of the dac chip!

The weak link here seems to be the computer upsampling because the internal (bad) clock reference of the computer. And I bet at least the bad phase noise and noisy PS are not keeped in the computer upsampled file but does the precision of the pc clock is good enough for a software upsampling for our Red book materials ????

PS: I would be happy to see how a standalone 11.2 M hz Laptech is working in a old Philips DAC with some caps replacement as well 🙂 We could be very surprised perhaps !

Hurk ! Totaly forgott than the SAA7220 is art piece of enginering when it comes to create jitter 😉

I have a Marantz TDA1540s board somewhere... will try with it 🙂. A two cents : is a jittered good phase noise sounds better than a jitter maid by a bad crystal... ahahahha !

Crystals and PCBs - finalizing orders

Maybe I've missed this information elsewhere in the thread but how does things progress from here? Should I transfer money to you for the crystals I'd like to buy, or ...?
Jesper

Since all the quote are available, I believe it's the time to close the waiting list, to finalize the orders.
The waiting list will be closed within December, 31.

PCBs:
TWTMC-C (clock board) Unit price € 2.00
TWTMC-C (daughter board) Unit price € 9.00

Laptech crystals:
11.2896 MHz
22.5792 Mhz
24.5760 MHz
45.1584 MHz
49.1520 MHz
We have reached the MOQ, so the unit price is € 27.00

6.1440 MHz comes out of the list, due to MOQ (100 pcs)

5.6448 MHz
we have to reach MOQ (15 pcs). If MOQ will be reached, unit price is € 29.00 (I will add 3 more pcs)

25.0000 MHz
16.9344 MHz (*)
we have to reach MOQ (10 pcs). If MOQ will be reached, unit price is € 27.00
(*) In case someone would get 33.8688 MHz 3rd overtone in place of 16.9344 MHz fundamental, to use with the divider, I have 5 pcs to sell, unit price is € 27.00

All prices don't include:
Paypal fees: 5% of the total amount
Shipping in an envelope: worldwide € 7.50, tracking within EU € 3.50 (no insurance included).
Combined shipping to Phil in a box (assembly service): € 2.00

Since I have to pay Laptech in advance, as soon as they send me the proforma invoice, next days I will begin to collect money via Paypal. I'll let know the total amount for each member.

Please, update the list where needed
Members who require assembly service, please indicate it in the list

Please, pay attention to desired crystal frequency and its MOQ. If the MOQ will not be reached for some frequency, that frequency will be removed from the list.

Thank Andrea for your Work, nice project. And Phil and Korben for your help.
What is the best way to connect your board (double clock) at the double XO of Ian,with a adapter,solder,SMA-UFL?.

Combined way, crystals/PCBs from me and assembly/components from Phil.
I will ship crystals and PCBs to Phil, he will assemble the boards and finally he will ship the finished and tested boards directly to each user.

Unfortunately I have not succeeded to establish communication despite a message to Phil so I can't really finalize my order before I get some reply and quotes.

Unfortunately I have not succeeded to establish communication despite a message to Phil so I can't really finalize my order before I get some reply and quotes.

As far as I know, Phil is working to define the cost of the assembly service, including components.
I think next days he will publish all the information.
Anyway, I have just sent him an email to know when he will be ready.

Hi All

Sorry for my late input, been busy dealing with DAC GB.

I've define the Assembly Service costs.
I'll try to do the same for the parts order form.
To avoid mistakes due to various configurations, I've to quote a "common BOM" and then add required parts for each request.
Link to the Assembly Service form :

Prices for D&D board Assembly Service are subject to be reduced.
It depends on your final choices.
Consider the price mentionned in the form as the highest for a fully stuffed board.
A scalable cost will be provided according to your final configuration.

Note : For technical choices/questions ask Andrea and refer to this thread content.

Regards

Phil
