The Well Tempered Master Clock - Building a low phase noise/jitter crystal oscillator

, for those loving the TDA1541A, Pedja Rogic on Audial is making an interest poll to a new launch of his DIY AYA board with embeded USB to simultaneous mode.

It uses two Crystek crystal and the board has air (area has space) and imo the Andrea's adaptator can be easily soldered instead Crysteks cans. There are also direct uf-l pads to pass through the USB stage for those wanting to feed directly the dac chip with I2S or simultaneous pcbs of their choice (SD trans card player, DIYs, JLSounds USB, etc)

Thanks! Enlisted for one ;)

Andrea, You know me a little, I like to make bridges between ideas and people, it's my modest way to contribute.

I launched the idea. Pedja is an open guy withg his DIY projects :

people can technically contribute as it's a poll here : you are the clock guy :worship:

USB interface and AYA 2021 editions [poll] - Audial

up to people that like the work of both of you and TDA1541 have to see, think and ask if any possibilities...:)

why would that be?

@Doede,

Sorry for this late reply.. Thank You, and I got this slow in reply because It's a bit unclear for me. Andrea definitely has a good point, the crystal can be a 'suspect'. Though, and Andrea knows that, my point is sligthly different: I feel that the measurement with the 5,6448 crystal is so much of ' scraping the bottom of the barrel', that the instrumental noise floor gets into the picture, too, cross correlation notwithstanding..
For this reason I was hoping for getting an another data point: Andrea had sent me the measurement result also for the 6,144MHz Laptech crystal.
So here they are, first is his measurement, second graph is mine. Full of 'artefacts, that extra sloping at 0,1Hz range is due to the' drift' effect that I had been talking about. It was a quick shot, the system did not fully settle, yet.

Apart from this, I think I can conclude that these two takes, by totally different instrumentation, even the oscillator is different, - but the same crystal -..
Are in quite a good agreement. Note that here we are ~15db higher, farther from the instrument floor..

Ciao, George

Hi,

can you please ask Pedja if he is using the enable pin of the Crystek to select the clock frequency according to sample rate family?

It could be useful to understand if there is the issue I have mentioned in my previous post.

Completely agree Joseph. it will be hard to get better close in phase noise and looking at "normal" commercial clocks this measures way better. So we should not care too much about the small differences between setup 1 and 2.

Another topic, is the Holmes setup something for a group buy?

Hi Andrea,

So the problem doesn't occur for him to answer your question,

So it will be easy as P Rogic is using the CHHD957 vias : both or either of the new or old TTWMC should feet without problem and then profites the simultaneous mode and short pass between your clock and the TDA1541 on compact board without spaghetti uf-l wires everywhere (no added jitter) with still versatility for others (uf-l pads nears the dac chip)

ok closed subject and thanks again for your help :)

But a bird can shoot a plane, lol !
I'm now lost with this story of phase measurement between the Iancanada and Andrea ping pong game, I don't know anymore where to read when it's noise near the carrer and XO??

So the Vectron are bad but the analyser is spending the cost of an italian house ?

Ok I go back to my LP12, lol !

Hi Andrea,

I just posted part two of your clock Review !

This time versus Accusilicon 338 and improved clock power supply.

Hi Doede,

Nice work!

The previous driscoll with sc-cut crystal of Andrea is in a (sort of) dil14 package..... it fits on top of the fifopi but needs separate power supply.
If you like to do more comparisons I can lent you one of these and also a crystek (both 45mhz) Please let me know if you are interested.

You need 3v (or 3,3v) and 6v (or 6,6v) power supplies.

Groeten,
