The SIT-3X Amplifier

I should add that the resistor values (and maybe a capacitor of two) shown in the schematics might change as variability in active parts (SITs, FETs, BJTs, etc) necessitate or when circuit characteristics might be improved. This should not be a big deal for builders.

Today I finished the BOMs and ordered parts for a single OS and FCFE. I expect parts to arrive on Thursday and PCBs on Friday. If all goes well, by Monday I should be in a position to post the "final" BOMs and schematics, and to ship PCBs.

To keep things simple, I intend to ship everyone a total of 7 PCBs:

  • 2 x FCFE
  • 1 x OS-left
  • 1 x OS-right
  • 2 x single channel caps
  • 1 x dual channel caps
I believe this is the list of forum members that have requested PCBs. Let me know if you wish to be added or deleted. I will provide a PayPal address for making payments and providing mailing addresses for the boards.

Hello,

Me too, please add one kit for me.
PM sent

Thanks

The PCB fabrication order was for 25 sets of PCBs. The list below shows 22 people interested in the PCBs, there are a couple of additional requests not shown below, and I need at least one set for myself. Therefore I cannot take any more requests at this time.

As a practical matter, never having been involved in the distribution of a PCB set to people from around the world, I do not know anything about the costs in my time and your money to ship the boards.

Likewise, there are many components required to build this amplifier, many of which would be much less expensive with a bulk purchase, but the gets back to the problems with shipping, which I want to avoid.

If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Lynn, check out post number 558 from Mark Johnson on this thread. I took his advice on shipping AB100 boards to several diya members worldwide and it worked out well. Probably the most economical way to go. 😀

AB100 Class AB Power Amplifier

This does not provide tracking, so as long as that is OK, which it is for me, then buyer would have to take on the responsibility incase the envelope is lost. Not sure insurance covers once outside the USA, unless a service like Priority Mail is used at an increased price.

That’s correct Rush. Hence, the most economical way to go. I shipped to Australia and a few other countries and they all arrived safely. These days there may be slightly more risk or shipping time with COVID of course. Something else to keep in mind.

I need everyone who wants to order the SIT3X PCBs to provide me with a PM containing your mailing address and phone number. The mailing address should be in the following format, as per the USPS international mailing address format USPS.com FAQs. For addresses within the U.S.A. line 4 is omitted.

  • LINE 1: ADDRESSEE'S FULL LEGAL NAME
  • LINE 2: STREET ADDRESS OR POST OFFICE BOX NUMBER
  • LINE 3: CITY OR TOWN NAME, OTHER PRINCIPAL SUBDIVISION (i.e. PROVINCE, STATE, COUNTY, ETC.) AND POSTAL CODE (IF KNOWN) (Note: in some countries, the postal code may precede the city or town name)
  • LINE 4: COUNTRY NAME (UPPERCASE LETTERS IN ENGLISH)

Example:
JOYCE L. BROWNING
2045 ROYAL ROAD
LONDON WIP 6HQ
ENGLAND

I received the PCBs yesterday and, as feared, there were some Gerber file conversion problems. The single-channel PS capacitor boards need some manual rework, but since there are 50 such boards, considerable time is required. The dual-channel PS capacitor boards appear to be fine.

Builders using the diyAudio Store 5U 400mm (or similar) chassis can go with either a pair of 32V, 300VA transformers using a pair of single-channel cap. boards, or with a single 32V, 600VA transformer using a single dual-channel cap. board. Let me know if you plan to use a single transformer with the dual-channel cap. board and do not need the single-channel cap. boards.

Similarly, the OS-left and OS-right need some rework to remove solder mask around the IXYS PFET terminal screw connections. This will probably require about 15 minutes per board x 50 boards, unless builders are willing to do this themselves. The rework requires removing solder mask around 4 holes on each side of the OS-left and OS-right boards, shown in before (top) and after (bottom) images below. The solder mask can re removed by carefully scraping with a sharp tool, such as an Exacto knife, or using a small wire brush on a Dremel tool.
