Didn't Troels do something with that tymphany unit lately?

I wonder if the bass filter was no good? Maybe a Mickey Mouse first order filter on the treble too. Why do people do this? I definitely like second order bass at least, with a bit of resistance in the capacitor bass shunt. 🙂

But the tweeter with phase plug is a nice idea. I've had similar notions myself.

But really, Joachim, I was just throwing a few ideas at you to get your creative side going. A heck of a lot of what I've learned is in reading your stuff! 😀

Now i am thinking about the cabinet.
For the woofer a closed cabinet of ca. 70 liters is ideal.
It will then have a butterworth response.
The DUAL CL190 has a rather flat and wide cabinet.
I thought that there is only a little step when i go to this :

I heard that speaker over 20 years ago and it sounded great.
That cabinet shape also has the advantage of very little baffle step and it does not need a stand.
So what i will build is a mix of german and american vintage.

I have now all drivers in house.
I think this is an impressive asortment by any means, and even not that expensive.
I am contemplating two layouts :
One is the more modern inline of the midranges, the other is the traditional side by side.
I am gavitating towards the side by side.
It looks more compact to me.

-unless you are pushing that lower tweeter *really* low (with a relatively low low-pass for the mid.s), it's not something I'd do (..and I don't know why it as done originally). At the very least that first meter is going to have a strange polar pattern.. but if the standard listening distance is 3+ meters then it may not be much of an issue.

If you had used the peerless 1.5" cone mid-tweet in a x4 "line" it would have been more viable IMO. 😱

-speaking of Peerless, have you seen their new "preliminary" drivers (in their "Silver" line)? Might have been interesting to use them in a design like this.

For those who aren't aware, Zaph has the lower tweeter (without ferrofluid) tested on his Blog:

The harmonic distortion of the ferrofluid version at lower freq.s should be even better.
