The Mini-A

This is not a valid criteria to indicate that the soft start resistance is doing it's job of limiting peak starting current to an acceptable value so that one does not blow close rated mains fuses.

I'm starting my aleph mini's again and finishing my B1, wil post pictures soon.

Need to surf some ebay or forums to buy a pair of crc psu boards first tho..

I agree, but in the event that you don't have a relay to take the thermistor out of the circuit after a few seconds (yet), with too little current draw it acts as a resistor between the primary windings....

you guys are really degrading this amp by putting all this un-necessary CRAP into them.

build the proper crc psu, use the right bleeder resistors, use the proper thermistor for ac inrush current and poof be done with it..

speaker protection & soft starts etc etc all degrade the amp. use the KISS method and nothing else.

GESH!

Why is Speaker Protection crap? So high end excellent sounding equipment with speaker protection cannot compare to one without?

It's much cheaper for a relay to click during a fault then having to replace an expensive driver or ship back the speaker to the factory.

I think these comments are somewhat irresponisble, especially for those who are just starting out.

JL,
please explain how and/or why a soft start that automatically takes itself out of the primary circuit in about 300ms has an effect on the sound quality coming from the speakers?

still has to go through all that crap, plus all the stuff connected to it,

like nelson said, SIMPLE IN SIMPLE OUT, tying extra things on the circuit is not needed.

why do you think the pass labs don't have all these things.

ClassA does not mean constant current draw from the power supply rails.

However in this instance you are referring to Power draw through the mains connected Thermistor.
Provided the amplifier remains in ClassA then there is near constant power draw and thus little modulation of the thermistor average current.

If you build the amp properly and do it like how it's suppose to, then it should not fail.
