The diyAudio First Watt M2x

The Burson V6 has a max. rail voltage limitation of -+16.5 VDC......I think that be a problem using IPS7 boards?

It's seeing +-10V, so I think I'm okay... if it goes up in smoke I will know I was incorrect. lol

It's not to bad to cut them out after you do one. IF anyone is going to do it contact me and I'll share. The area to watch out for is the top, you can't go deep with that cut, or you will cut the board to board jumpers. Even if you did, you could always solder a connection in, but if you are careful you can get them out, just take your time and don't cut anything deeper than you absolutely have to.

Here's the IPS7 schematic. The opamp's power pins are connected to "VUPPER" and "VLOWER", which have the input signal (music) superimposed upon them. You can analyze the circuit by assuming the phono needle has been lifted out of the vinyl groove, so there is no music and the "INPUT" signal is zero volts.

What is the highest r acceptable impedance of the source that can directly drive the transformer?
I don't think anybody has performed the necessary experiments to answer this question. It would begin with a very low impedance source, and then install a variable resistance between the source and the primary of the Edcor transformer. Measure distortion (or listen carefully) at many different series resistances, and find the highest resistance which gives acceptable distortion (or acceptable listening enjoyment). You could do this with a modified Tucson input card, in which you have spliced a 1K potentiometer in series between the opamp and the output. I'd strongly recommend using a trimmer rated for at least 500 milliwatts.

Do keep in mind that the input impedance of the M2x amp, looking into the primary of the Edcor transformer, is about 600 ohms. link -- see post #27 So if you drive the transformer primary from a source whose impedance is 600 ohms, these two impedances form a voltage divider, which cuts the signal amplitude in half.

@ Itsmee Yes, that is on the menu as well, I really like the V6V for attch, it's fast as hell, but having listened to it for a couple days for hours on end, I find that it's missing some detail in the midto high end.

When I get some more in, I would be wiling to send these out for people to test. In the end, I can't use these anyway, unless I want to mod my top cover, or leave it off. 🙄

Laying out my M2X chassis 4U and parts

I'm working out my layout for the M2X. I've found a way to make the custom hinge work and be secure. the website for it is: Par-Metal. I think it cost around $12.00 and had fast turnaround.

So I can recommend it.

I have a rubber liner between the hinge and the transformer, correct?

Thanks

Finally trusted the new M2 monos with flying leads on the Tektons, heretofore they have been playing on a $400 pair of shop speakers. I have the IPS7 with the V6V in there still and I have to say, it's sounding pretty damn good.

I broke out the single malt and closed my eyes near field with some Krall and Gardot, next thing I knew I was having a hard time drinking it because the smile was in the way. 🙂

I already know this OP is not my final choice, but even with the niggles I have on it, it sweet.
