Anyone have part numbers for X2, X6 the 2 and 4 pin headers? For X2, is there a part for 2-pin coaxial SPDIF connector?

As fyi, the WM8804 is back ordered from Digikey until Oct 14.

FWIW - Since X2 and X6 are in the incoming and out going signal path I was going to directly solder those connections.

But regarding the SPDIF, since SPDIF's are supposed to be orange I found this basic one on DigiKey:

RCJ-037

Cheers

What are you talking about? The only spec that matters for SPDIF is that it is supposed to be 75 ohms. The only connectors that are specified for 75 ohms are BNC connectors, so I'd recommend using them for your transport, cables, and DAC. A reasonable 75ohm BNC for the DAC is Digikey # ACX1406-ND

X2 and X6 are Molex KK 0.100 connectors ( 2 pin and 4 pin version). I used to solder connections too in the past but wait till you have to troubleshoot 😉 The Molex KK 0.100 are pretty good but when mated extremely much they will wear and then soldering is better. Let's say that I use them with confidence.

SPDIF RCA connectors are yellow usually but do yourself a favor and go for BNC 75 Ohm plugs. Tyco makes some nice ones :

1-1478048-0 - TE CONNECTIVITY / GREENPAR - SOCKET, BNC, INS, BULKHEAD, 75R | Farnell Nederland

Those can be used in sources too when the RCA is removed. Since they are insulated no problems with GND can occur. Just drill a hole and mount the BNC.

Agreed on the BNC-type, but is there something special about this part? Seems very pricey.

I have used this type of connector by the dozens in the past, and they usually cost around $1.50~2 ea, under $1 in q. Example from Newark:

MC23557 - MULTICOMP - RF/COAXIAL BNC BHD JACK STR 75 | Newark

(Ok, I admit I am cheap... 😀 )

I also found this on ebay: (I would guess that regulator should run fine at less than 6V input, but I am not sure)

Listing Name: TOSLINK Optical Input to S/PDIF Module

Listing#: 330386501621

Price: $23.00

Optical Input Module for DAC

Specification:

• Optical Input to S/PDIF Output
• Low Noise&Low Drop Regulator
• Low Impedance Tantal and MLCC
• Power Input : Regulated or Unregulated DC 6~20V(MAX 40mA)
• Support up to 192KHz
• Output Voltage Level : 0.1 ~ 4V
• Low Jitter : < 0.033ns(@15dBm)
• Gold Plated PCB
• Size : 24x42x21(WxDxH :mm)

Hi PMI
The required PSU for this module is shown in first pic to be between 6-20 VDC.
DAC PSU is 5VDC...
Noted, thanks! Which is why I said this above: "(I would guess that regulator should run fine at less than 6V input)" Not knowing exactly what is on that little board, something one would have to test to be sure... 😀

If anyone happens to have more into, please chime in, thanks!

Hi
According 723 datasheet, if you change R1 to 1.15K and R2 to 6.04K then you will get 6V from DAC PSU, with 12V trafo. But this is J.P. and Subbu design ...
Thanks, although that is a bit like what we call "The tail wagging the Dog". If it comes to that, I think I should just put another reg. on a little piece of perf board... 😀

Thank you Jean-Paul, I really appreciate you sharing your insights and experiences.

Hi the one I use is specified for at least 500 matings and it is a good connector plus I can get my hands on it here. Otherwise the type you use is OK too. I wish I could get them for that price !
