Sonido fullrange driver thoughts?

I am using SWR175 Alnico. I tested a lot of drives. Sonido was the best.
Frequency cut - 360Hz, 12dB.

If the baffle is done correctly and the FR used above its mass corner, it should work well in an OB.

1st order XO might not work. MJK covers a lot of material in his passive OB article and i would suggest that is what you would be best to follow. He uses a split frequency 2nd order filter.

Will look into that, thanks. The idea of 1st order crossovers is to avoid phase incoherence problems induced by higher order filters.
What do you think about the solution where you simply let the full range play its full range, as low as it wants to, and then add a woofers to augment below? Something like one and a half design (or like satelites with a woofer do, just woofers would be on the same baffle here).

I like first order filters for that reason too. But they are hard to use. In an OB with no loading below the cutoff a bit steeper roll-off is needed. And given that the size & shape of the baffle directly affect the response, i believe that this was also a factor in MJK using split 2nd order.

Couple of years ago made these for a friend.

300SCW sonido in TL, 175SWR sealed volume, cros section for TL and sealed cabinet tried to follow golden ratio.

1st order about 225Hz and zobel for 300scw.

Quite happy how it sonds, both me and friend.

P.S. Left and right are not on their places on foto, 175swr are close to the center now.

Very nice looking speakers. Are the plans on Sonido website?

I appreciate the work of the small manufacturer in Hungary very, very much. They are one of the few that can build custom speaker for customers, here a few examples:

Food for thought…just received these from Istvan…looking for ideas outside his standard reflex solution

My initial intention is to pop them into my smaller OB for a listen…currently have Lii Audio Crystal 10 mounted…will need to fab an adapter to mount them

Currently using (1) Acoustic Elegance dipole 15 per side driven by Hypex amps on the bottom

I may have to finally set up my T90a on top of them to fill out the top end…mainly after as much beautiful mids as I can get with these SWR250/FC wide banders

Finishing up a pair of Babelfish J2 which are intended to drive various multi-way mid/high scenarios

My intention is to build a larger slot loaded bass solution with (2) Acoustic Elegance dipole 18 per side to experiment with various point source solutions on top…including some 12” Tannoy and BMS coaxial 4590 in horns…what will come out on top?!!!

I’ve got a MiniDSP to play with as well as an older Marchand opamp based crossover…currently I use only a First Watt B5…this may require sorting out my Bi-Amp crossover kits to get where I want to be

I also still have some front horns I’m tempted to adapt to mount these 10” drivers in…not sure its the right thing to do regarding directivity, but horns are so damn sexy!

Sunroom system in pic with current OB is about 3.5 X 4.5 meters…higher ceiling in middle at 3 meters. Listening position at end of 4.5 meter length on couch.

Living room system is at bottom end of larger Dining/Living area. Situated on wall that fires into a 4.5 X 6.75 meter room lengthwise. Listening position 2/3 back in the larger dimension on large cloth couch. Currently have the big Tannoy System 15 DMT II there.

Parameters as stated by Istvan packages with drivers:

Thanks for the link GM, hadn’t crossed that in my research…Google…go figure.

BTW…I custom ordered a 16Ohm pair so as to present and easier load…they ahould be plenty sensitive.

Chop chop…half way there.

Making OB modular so I can swap different panels in up top.

Hopefully the Sonidos will be in place this weekend

Everything turns into a project

No idea how I manage to obsess over making some boards with holes in them so much

Simple 3/4” MDF wasn’t good enough…had to double it

Rebate the holes for speaker frames

Glue and screw them together

Round over all the edges with the router

I’m trying to decide how to mount the upper panels

The lowers have thread inserts with recessed 1/4-20 hex cap bolts holding the side/legs on…only one extra hole toward the top to try and fasten the upper panel

Was thinking of drilling another hole…but it seems like there’s not much room

Now I’m considering aluminum bar stock along the entire edge of both panels sandwiched between the side/legs and panels…might allow more flexibility for mounting different panel combinations

Somewhere along the line I started looking at Leon Huijgen’s design and started thinking I should mimic it as closely as possible since Pure Audio Project and Lii Audio seem to be using it.

I’m still active with a First Watt B5 for this OB remodel.

Supposedly, Leon’s design has a 4-5mm gap between panels relating to the acoustic filter of his design…not sure if that apply’s to me if I’m not going passive for the crossover.

I’m leaving a gap between the bottom of woofer panel and the floor for the possibility of adding an additional slot loaded woofer a la Papa Pass’s newer SLOB project in case its needed for higher sensitivity mid/high combos.

I’ve come this far…might as well paint the damn panels…any ideas on a color?
