Something to lighten the mood

I don't know if you are aware of the late, great singer and comedian Max Bygraves?

His catch phrase was "I wanna tell you a story"!

Here he is, on the left, with his contemporaries Tommy Cooper and Arthur Askey. Doyens of a more innocent comedic era?

And congratulations to Great Britain's curlers!

A silver medal for the men's team and a gold medal for the woman's team.

The Scottish players brought back Great Britain's only medals from the games!

That certainly lightened my mood!

My cousin competed in some international academic games. One of the teams required their coaches be given the questions in advance of the tests to be sure the translation was correct.

Not too surprising that the translations must have been correct as their team usually placed very well on all the tests. Taking almost all the first and second places. My cousin placed third in his group. More interesting was that they did not have a category for his specialty (physics if I recall correctly.) so he did math (again if I recall correctly.)

Just as a side his mother taught math at MIT and latter Johns Hopkins.

So I look at many of the medalists as being truly outstanding, others not so much…. Judging also has been a problem at past Olympics, not just who can compete and what team they are on.
