Slewmaster - CFA vs. VFA "Rumble"

(I always tied to work exclusively on a 0.050" grid) including the drills.
???
There is placed, routing, via grids in most decent s/w
I usually place comps on a 25 mil grid (sometime down to 5 mil for really tight smt) because I make my component placement outlines on a 25 mil grid.
I route and place vias on a 1 mil grid.
Why? because it makes routing so much easier. let the DRC rules (spacings) dictate how close copper objects can placed, not the grid.
Only for testpoint rules do you want to set certain vias/tps to say a ind std 50/100 mil grid, but that is a special case.

Larger devices look nicer on a 50 or 100 mil grid. SMD is pretty much useless at that grid size though.

Sprint 5 says it's good. Is 5 $hit ?

If I had real internet , I would have torrent. If I had torrent ,
full versions of every software out there would be mine.
I scored sprint 5 in albany , NY. Arggggg !

There's something odd with the files. I used to use Ivex from last century and it's files are still okay so I doubt the problem is with Sprint 5.

I sent a copy of 6 on a cd to you last fall. Did it make it? It was in with a bunch of parts.

Skip the Torrents and hook up with a news server. No viruses that way and much more reliable downloads.

Abort launch !! Houston
I loaded your gerber drill into gerbtool. I see issues with your drill data, seems some/many parts are missing a proper drill size or the drill size is way too small.
I see, a partial list, of these comps having issues.
C16,18 ...
R132-135 ...
D104b,105b,D107b ...
Q101,102,107b ...

You should have been able to check these out before you generated the drill data, that is if your s/w is any good. Turn on only your drill layer and top pads to check. You should be able to see the drill diameter, the pad diameter(annual ring) and even the SM relative to the pad which i usually use 6 mil or 0.15mm over pad if using lpi sm which is pretty much std these days.
Also are you not able to generate a fab drawing and place a drill schedule which calls out drill sizes and matches them to a symbol that represents the drill hit location.

On the other issue with drills. if you want npth's you should send a separate drill file just for them and have notes in the drill schedule indicating as such. Some el cheapo pcb fab houses only do PTH as NPTH are a secondary op. that they wish to bypass so they can continue to be called el cheapo.

I will look further ...

oh boys I see lots of other problems too
SMD mask top should be merged with soldermask top, might be a setup in your gerb generator

have you actually fab'd anything with this s/w package before?
I think PCBWay is about the bottom of the barrel for cheap board houses. If there's no pad around the hole they assume it's not plated through and leave it empty. No separate file needed.

Yes , I have 2 sprint 6's , even one that is legit. Both crash on my win7-64. No other
prog does it. But my win 7 is old (not kosher).

But , hundreds of other programs don't have problems .... confused.😕

Okay most the stuff is fixed but I see that there is a drc error for the hole that is just above D102!! Spacing violation to trace on bottomside
There is no sm at all, so there is no clearance for the npth's.
getting closer 🙂

That hole looks fine in Sprint 6. It's just a through hole. No plate through. That trace is on the topside of the board. The 1206 pads are on the bottom.

Also the 0,0 orientation shows the data is in the wrong quadrant, since the "y" dimension data is all neg numbers relative to the datum point.
Where is the fab drawing?,
I see you have a text file but usually one has a fab drawing to show drill hit locations and drill tolerances etc.

I have my SL6 working on Windows 7 SP1 64bits and I have no problem at all 😕 I have been used a lot this past few years 🙂 maybe has to do something about ram ? I have 8G of ram

video card perhaps ? ...

you guys think it might be the origin has to be place right into one of the corners of the PCB to have correct X,Y coordinates ?

when I open a new project and decide to add PCB size outline always I notice that "origin" is in one of the corners of the PCB outlines

Regards
Juan

You definitely deal with much more upscale board houses than most of us do.😀 Every one I've checked out only want basic Gerbers and a single drill file. If you give them too much information you are begging them to screw things up. The KISS theory works best when dealing with China due to the language barrier.

Yes I agree, follow their rules and everything usually goes okay. And do not throw anything tricky in there like a separate npth drill file. For the cheapo guys I always use one drill file and assume/spec that every hole gets plated, with or without an annular ring 🙂
That file you sent will fail drc I can almost bet on it, will they fix/fab anyways? let me know how it goes 🙂

Try running in different O/S compatibility modes?

Yes , I'll try that. I got the crash with JK's unifed sprint 6 artwork .
Any of my ported 5 work (in 6) would save and not crash .

JW - BTW , this is my internet (below) ... just a few ports. No newsgroup for me.
Internet in America sucks (3'rd world performance - top dollar price).
Also , I'm about 1/4 mb speed now ... omg !
