We should be happy I am sure Fred's gone to a better place, he is the company of the likes of Walt Jung and the ones before him.
He now can use a scope with infinite bandwidth, where he's now all the capacitors, resistors, inductors are perfect capacitor inductors and resistors. His soldering iron will always be at the perfect temperature, copper will never oxidize, all crossovers will have infinite slope, all voltage sources have 0 impedance and infinite impedance CCS (AC).
In his audio nurvana mosfets have no input capacitance, 1000V schottky diodes are available etc etc etc. You got the point, gotta go.
I'll never forget Fred's helpful discussions. His post where accurate, informative, colorful and entertaining. Thank to him this site was more than just an audio site. It was my coffee cigarette at 6 am. Both stimulating and mildly intoxicating. It is unfortunate that his legacy will be lost forever as I don't see anyone here with his knowledge, wit, irreverence and strong principles ready to take his place. My 2 cents:
1) IF this board is going downhill it is going downhill BECAUSE of threads like this. A year ago ANY post by any newbie, no matter how annoying the question was to the regulars, would get answered. That's no longer the case, because all the old boys are spending time on these "moderating" or "commercialism" threads.
2) Grow up. The egos are growing at an exponential rate. I think more members than you think actually do know the difference between the real gurus and the ones with guru-sized egos who learned everything from this board. Go have milk and cookies and calm down.

It serves no purpose to call *all* the people that are on this forum names just because of an opinion of yours on one or a few people. And the ones you adress to can be more willing to discuss matters with you if you choose your words more careful.
Besides that calling names is against the forum rules. I think you'll appreciate that if some go against you in a discussion the non elegant way.
If this was all comment from moderators side, it shows how large the gap between members and moderators has grown at diyaudio.

If Fred decided to leave, it was only because he knew his departure will create such discussion. I don't even know how you know he has left, as he didn't announce it on a forum. So it must have been communicated to you in PM.
Fred was not banned, he was not told to go away, he left by his own choice. If you really want him back, just email him and ask nicely to come back😉

general is highly unfair in this context. However, I also think
we are still waiting for an attempt to explain what the complaint
was that led to the decision to move the thread (no I don't
ask you to tell who complained). I think that would help to
clear the air a bit. It is a bit too thick with gunsmoke right now
and I think it would be good both for the forum and for the
credibility of the moderators to shed som light on this issue.

You send me warnings only to have a "reason" to sinbin me troublemaker soon for warming up the Fred topic you moderators do not want to be reminded of. You do not post anything on topic, you try to move the thread away from topic with you moderators power.
If this is the new measurement scale, please go through all the other 400 000 postings, you will find a lot to moderate because bad words are used...

I appreciate your (and anyone's) efforts to be informed of the facts. 😉
I find off-putting all forms of aggression and name calling on this site (including what the sometimes taken-aback lawyer in me has sighted as numerous plain instances of defamation). As people more easily pull a trigger than throw a spear, so do people more easily name-call through internet posting than face to face encounter. I've taken some time to consider the pros and cons of enforcing a greater degree of civility on this forum and am left wondering why moderators do not more quickly censure uncivil messages.
