Joachim,
If I was going to add an 8 or 10" woofer to the mix, would you suggest staying with a paper based driver? What is your experience with mixing cone materials?

Buzz, I think that 8" is a joke for 6.5" Satori, 10" — minimum 🙂
Joachim, what do you think about a SB29nrx woofer: The Madisound Speaker Store
It is paper like the satori and has F3 of 28Hz(!) in 2.0cf (57L).

I am inclined to agree. In my case, I have selected two 10" woofers from SB acoustics. The speakers are active with one amp per driver. The project is going forwards, albeit slowly!
Do remember that the Satori has been optimised for midrange performance above anything else and in JGs implementation is in a relatively small box. A suitable 8" in a suitably large ported enclosure will be able to give you a significant amount of bass. If you don't have space for the 10 an 8 will do fine in adding additional depth, just choose wisely.
PKI, i did not try that woofer.
My idea is to make something like the original Watt-Puppy.
2 x 8" in a stand.
Mixing cone materials ?
I did that many times before.
A bass with a metall membrane can work.
In the Sonics Spirit i even mixed a 26cm Scan-Speak metall bass with a 17cm Accuton ceramic plus a big Fountek ribon tweeter.
That speaker sounds excellent.

I have just ordered 4 Vifa Ne265W-08 that I will pair with the Satori woofer. From the what i have seen, they measure very well for the intended purpose and should provide good support for the mid. From what I have heard of the monitor, it is well worth the effort and relieved of its low end can only improve.
It does seem as if they could have been designed by the same person. I wish they were a little more efficient, but paralleled and with a little active EQ, they should do nicely. We may try the SS in a Watt puppy style setup with the current monitors. I wish I could have dual SS, but at that price range, you have to consider other options like the C-10-77 sandwich cone from AT.
Hi Joachim, just to say I didn't yet receive a reply from SB about the difference in the model variant - it only seems to affect the frequency response slightly.
btw I decided to use the Fountek X 2.0 ribbon with my satori's in a 2.5 way design.

As far as i know there is only a 4 and an 8 Ohm version of the same driver.
I talked to Ulrik the other day and forgot to ask.
The Fountek ribbon is very good.

Do you happen to know that smaller size of Satori is going to release in the future?
thanks,
Hmm...I looked at Madisound page, but no Kalasan kit is available yet, despite promising photo on Facebook site. When this kit will become available and are there any wooden parts construction plans?
The Kalasan will be send back to the US for evaluation.
David of SB will make the decission if the speaker sounds the way it should.
Also Ulrik in Denmark is building a pair.
Sorry, this takes long but we want to do it right.
As far as i know there will be a bigger Satori driver first.

The Satori mid-woofer is rather small. More a 16cm then an 18cm.
So i heard that they work on an 18cm.
Also a beryllium tweeter is in the making.

Here are some pictures of my setup.
First i tried vinyl.
Now i am listening to digital.
Nice drive d/a combo. I did the cad work on the boards in the d/a but can't claim any IPR on the actual electrical or layout decisions. But I did placed every pad and via on it 🙂

I saw that different vendors around the world lowered the prices for the satori woofers - good news. From about 270 to 170 euros. Maybe the heard my crying 😉
