Salas DCG3 preamp (line & headphone)

I only have the preamp section chassis, I'll select the power supply chassis after I finish the 12vdc regulated supply.
Here is a pic of how far along I am.

Thanks. How are you doing the +/-15V supply for the Muses and will that supply be in the PS box?

I Hope the muses is as good as they say it is. There is the muses, The muses PS which I got nervous on and went for an LDO ultra low noise, and now I have to figure out how to power that.😱

I probably should ask Salas. He is like the architect for this stuff.

Really glad to see you doing this. Please keep showing pics.

Good luck,

Don

Don,
Here's how I did it—unless I'm missing something about your specific setup/roadblock—little 10VA 12V donut from Antek...Depending on the PWR requirements for your board...?

I also used this—GASP! inside an Aikido to power Muses off the heater circuit... Worked perfectly. I even scoped it for "noise"...all outside the audible range as far as my understanding takes me—marked improvement over a TKD. Might be able to do something similar with DCG3 PSU—Salas could advise...

the DCG3 supposed to be very sensitive for volumepots etc,
would a tvc be a good candidate?

I looked at the silk STA 522A, and it seems that you can also do unbal to balanced here.

Also you would only need a 2 deck switch?, what am i missing here?

regards,
John

John,
I have tried an AVC and it sounds quite good. You can try it before or after the DCG3. These usually like a low source impedance before it; the DGG3 output impedance is 50R so works fine with AVC after it. Cant specifically comment on a TVC.

@Hicoco - Thanks. I'm using a Khozmo attenuator I haven't seen on their website. It was recommended by Arek (Khozmo proprietor) for my first DIY preamp and I really liked the way it worked, so I bought another one for this project.

In my first preamp, I did not have an input buffer, so fed the input directly to the attenuator (which operates in shunt mode). Since I didn't want too low an input impedance, I used a 20K series resistor. That one was built with Takman REX shunt resistors and Vishay Z-foil series resistor.

For this new preamp, I have added an input buffer so I could increase the preamp input impedance and decrease the attenuator resistance. I also decided to try different resistors, so this one will use Takman REY shunt resistors and AudioNote Silver Tantalum Non-Magnetic 4.7K series resistor.

The attenuator includes a 6-to-1 input selector, two rotary encoders (one for selecting input and one for volume), an OLED display, and an IR remote control.

Each attenuator PCB can support two channels, but the boards can be sandwiched with a daisy-chained control cable to support more channels.

I've included a photo from Khozmo as well as a photo of my first DIY preamp.

Great looking build. Do you have any pictures of internals of the main pre-amp? chassis? I am planning a balanced build and am curious how you've laid it out.

Also, it looks like Toroidy offers 120v compatible transformers now?

Thanks Nash,

Before the DCG3 means i dont need an output filter in my dac and then i have se-bal conversion, but it is easy to try what sounds better i guess.

Still havent figured out how this all works, se in and bal out, i never used transformers before.
