Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

Thanks for the help. I will most likely just lift the in and out pins of the 5V regs and feed +-5V at the capacitor tabs if I decide to use a separate +-5V supply.

By the way, I tried adding 680/10 FPCAP to the 3.3 and 1.2V at J2 - not any difference I can hear or measure. Post reg ripple looks the same.

Hi,

i have some trouble with the first steps to get music from my soekris dac.
My setup:
- Raspberry Pi with Hifiberry Digi + Transformer
- +- 9V DC Supply
- RCA Output after Buffer Stage

I put the spdif circuit between soekris and hifiberry digi +.
The lock LED is steady by playing a signal from the Raspberry.

But the output signal from the dac was distored / deformed.

Has anybody a tip to solve the problem ?

Is there any chance to connect my raspberry direct to the soekris dac?

Daniel

Yes, 3.3V is necessary for the isolated inputs.

Otherwise great information here:

And a dedicated linux+soekris dac thread here:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/271734-linux-servers-soekris-dam1021-2.html

New situation:

Connect the Raspberry over Hifiberry Digi + Transformer to Soekris DAC.
The output (raw and buffered) with distortion.
The Raspberry works fine at other DAC.
If I switch of the Soekris Power Supply several times the output signal is o.k.
Any ideas ?

Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

i had the same Problem, because my Power Supply needs to long to powerup (Soren recommends less than a sec). So the Dac starts and switch the TL431 Ref on, before the +-5V for the Vref-Buffers is up and so the positive Buffer locks to 0V.
I put 100uF to the TL431 between Anode+Kathode and now it works.

Greetings
Daniel

I use moode audio for Raspberry.

Both ways - I2S and SPDIF- does not work.

By I2S the Soekris LED flash.
With SPDIF the LED is steady and the output signal from the DAC was distored.

If you have wired I2S correctly, and it does not work, the problem is most likely with RPi I2S drivers. I had a similar problem with an older Volumio distro, updating RPi firmware solved it.

You may also want to check out the input board group buy, which provides plug-and-play Raspberry 2 connectivity. You will still need to sort out the software issues though.

I have experienced the distorted, warbling sound problem perhaps 4 times over the past 6 months, with unmodified DAM onboard supplies. If it happens, DAM has to be power cycled. Never got to the bottom of it, but the koala887 explanation about Vref problem appears plausible. Disappointing that it would affect stock DAM hardware.
