Pearl 3 Burning Amp 2023

@brianco Yes, there will be more kits as soon as I get PCBs, and there will be a ‘regular’ (non-pioneer) version at some point.

Standard gain is 46db / 70db and you get an extra 6db if you use the balanced line driver. You can, of course use whatever resistor value(s) you like to have a gain in the 40-70db range.

I will also observe that the preamp box should far removed not only from its mains transformer, but ANY mains transformer. It would be a shame to do a careful job and then set it right over your Iron Pre. In my present system there is a remote PS box with Independent supplies for the preamp and the Pearl 2, each fed over its own umbical.

Got up early and re-wired and re-terminated the power supply umbilical cable - shield now grounded at both ends. Had to get it done right away - Santa is bringing a lot of new vinyl!

Congrats to the first round of buyers. I know everyone is working hard to resupply the store.

No, wanted to start with direct connection as baseline. It is still really quiet, and we've been using it for 2 hours already this morning. Looks like Christmas Eve and Day will be all vinyl days!

There is no audible difference in noise/hum with the shield connected at both ends, but at least now I don't have to worry about other negative effects of my previous arrangement.

@GKTAUDIO
What's Santa bringing you for Christmas?

You've reminded me of a documentary I saw once (or twice) on public tv about guys who collect vinyl... but with a specialty.... Christmas LPs. It was fascinating and a little sad in a self-reflective way. I have a couple hundred Christmas CDs and LPs. I generally have to buy these myself. [sigh]

@mhenschel:

We're all over the map! This time around, it's a bunch of prog - Peter Gabriel, Seven Wilson, Riverside, RPWL, Trevor Rabin, lots of vintage jazz (Art Blakey, Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon), the remastered Van Halen I, and two UHQR Steely Dan releases ($OUCH$). My wife and I decided to make music the shared gifts this year. The Christmas album was last year - Amanda Shires.
