Is the new Protection 1 Amplifier/Speaker Protection, available yet, in your shop, as PCB only, or as a complete kit?

Is it a good choice for the Lynx?

Yes the Protection 1 would be the right circuit for all medium power amplifiers like the LYNX.
However sadly during long time stress test of the new PCB circuit there seems to be "bug" in the circuit, which wasn't on the breadboard version, which kills one of the transistors. This is a "spike" related problem that only seems to happens during really hard stress test (after 3-4 days continius on/off protection mode) of the circuit, so I'm not comfortable to release the PCB before I have tracked this bug down.

The real question though: Do we need speaker protection?

Unless you don't like your speakers or is filthy rich, you need a Speaker Protection circuit

Only one defect BTJ or resistor (or bad solder) somewhere in the amplifier circuit may cause high DC at the amplifier output and blow up your speakers !!

None of the above applies to me, so I guess I'm in for some protection then. What is the best on the market today?

I just ordered two speaker protections from aussiamplifiers. My hope is to be able to use his overheat protection in conjunction with P-A's softstart, and shut the whole thing down if either of the channels gets too hot.

If you have tips on how to implement this please advice.

I have already built my softstart, so I'm covered there. Besides I like the, perhaps phony, idea of having the channels separated after the amplification.

I screwed up with P-A's softstarter and I never know how. The transistor driving the relay keeping burning down so I look for another one. It must be my fault.

I wish you a speedy recovery ACD.
I am enjoying my Lynx amp (still without a chassis) and will order a speaker protection unit when it becomes available.

Hi Jan

I found that the signal ground (Input ground) is connected to most ground but the 0V ground (which C107, C108, ZD1, ZD2, C113, C112 is connected) is never connected to this. Is there any particular reson for that? Is there a common practice to insert a 10ohm between these 2 grounds?
