This is the broups buy TDA1541AS2 chip, THis is the best 1541a chip in the world. Due to my DAC was only use one chip, if U lke one, U can considerate to get one. USD80 for one chip only. Many diyers also order 1~2chips already, some order 6~12chips.

After a long and very pleasant holiday in Turkey, I returned in a cold and rainy Netherlands. But also... finally a chance to try my brand new TDA1541A DAC. So yesterday evening it was time to test the PCB.
I found a couple of 2x15Vac transformers that measure 17.5 Vac. They can only deliver 0.5A so I decided to parallel the secondaries to double the power. So I use two secondaries of one transformer for each supply side. I decided to remove all the add-on boards for the first test. After power up the RCA LED was green, good news. After measuring the PCB it turned out that the -5V connection between the two PCB's was not good. So I resoldered that one. Then I put on a S/P-DIF signal. Now a red light. I found a high DC voltage on the output, this was not good. But now it is away. After a bit of messing there was sound!!! 🙂
I must admit that I bought this kit mostly out of curiosity and because I was looking for a nice audio project. I was a bit sceptical if this kit really would give high-end sound. I currently use the Hercules 16/12 soundcard with internal DAC (external soundcard). I was very surprised to hear that the DAC is very musical. Actually it seems to be better than any DAC I have here in the house. Very dynamic & emotional, and smooth & sweet at the same time. Lots of detail and good focus. Very nice to listen to!!! I should do more comparisons to find out how good it actually is. But at this moment I am very satisfied... (I listened music to 2:30 this night).
Later, I tried the filter board. I must say that the connection is not so good. Sometimes I hear cracks. I'll have to see how I can improve this. I also tried the OPA627 opamps without success. No sound. Do I have to change the JP6 jumper to make this opamp work? Any other ideas?
Another question: does the $80 dollar for the S2 chip include postage to Europe?

let me share some imformations about the matching of parts & chips.
0.1uf coupling caps use Wima + Philips 5534/AD797= balance & musical.
0.1uf MKP coupling caps use Wima + OPA627= little bright, more detail but less musical, fit to vintage equipment because less dim & soft sound.
0.1uf MKP coupling caps use philips+ Philips 5534/AD797= balance & musical, very sweet sound but little less detail. ( advise)
0.1uf MKP coupling caps use philips + OPA627= little bright, more detail but less musical, same as wima but slightly less bright than wima, same fit use with vintage equipment because less dim & soft sound.

There had a switch on the facelet tunning for the source input.
two USB receiver, when U play CD, USE the best PCM2906 will better, if U use DVD audio or playing DVD music disk. U can chnage to another USB receiver. CM106L. This different Chips will interchangeable in the coming Ver.3 ultimate ver.Dac in modules format.
Since PCM2906 was USB1.1 only but will enough for standard CD in good performance. CM106L had USD2.0, large brandwidth will playing more smooth in DVD. This USB sound card will output SPDIF signal to CS8414 in 16bits, so 1541a can work. Diyers can use footbar to control the music signal. in WAV or APE. U can save lots of the CD into your hard disk. Seperate of power supply of the USB can lower the noise, more silient.

I received the fully assembled version two days ago. Took some time today to get it to work. Finally figured out the transformer wiring for 110v AC, soldered in some cheep rca patch cords changed a jumper to input rca and changed sw2 to 1 and 2 down 3 and 4 up and I got music. What I don't know is where all the upgrade caps go and how to tie the dac and cd rom contoller together.

the photo on post 896 is explicit on power trans wiring when using 220V/50Hz. In 110/60Hz you should probably wire the primary in Paralell (to confirm how).
There is a little mistake, I live in France and Kip apparently in United States 🙂. So wiring is different due to 220V in Europe and 110 V in US.
By the Way Thomas , have U send the CD Control Kit and Opamp ? I hope you haven't sent it to US 😀
