You basically mean a powered version of X's RS225/10F model?
Noting that thread has now reached 187 pages... I'd say there's some interest!
perceval,
With all due respect to X, the WAW/FAST concept has been going around way before X's RS225/10F build; however XRK971 has a number of superb FAST/WAW builds till date, both with active and passive crossovers.
Hi all,
Do you think there would be commercial interest in a FAST/WAW system, with a lower active box with woofer(s) using Hypex Fusion modules and high quality drivers (Satori's), and a choice of full range units on top, running filtered. These could be the new Mark Audio ones, or higher priced variants from Liio or Cube, to suite a range of price points and requirements.
My thinking is it would be an out of the box system, ready to play (pre-eq's flat) with whatever source you would want, but would allow you to upgrade the full range if needed without replacing the active element, and allow a level of tweaking to suite most diy-ers.
Could be made as affordable as something like the new KEF wireless LS50, but hopefully with much better all round performance.
Good thoughts TimbreAudio, but who is your target market? If it is diyAudio, then from the interest around X's thread looks like there will be interest in a "kit" of sorts. Not sure how commercially successful you can be, as us DIYers look for good value, and may/may not be willing to pay a price premium.
You mention the KEF LS50 Wireless - if it is folks outside of diyAudio, then do you have the marketing muscle and brand to make get the message out there? Also be careful of aesthetics, dimensions etc - lot of folks who are buying in the commercial market are more concerned about convenience, compatibility with domestic environment, brand, aesthetics - vs sublime sound at the expense of these.

There is, but i suspect you could face some uphill work getting people to pay attention.

...in gold? ...
They are copper, not gold ;^)
I have many, none spare (at least yet).

I was thinking a true 2 box system, less elaborate casework but kinda like the Kawero speakers. So the full range driver just has a Speakon connection to the active main box, and rests on top, with some cleaver Sorbothane isolation bits.
Or Vienna Acoustics may be a closer visual match...

Yes, of course., I never implied XRK971 invented the FAST concept.
I mentioned that one because the thread is at 1,862 posts at the moment.
Seems like there's an interest.
But Timbre is looking at something else entirely.
I think the trend is with smaller speakers, like the LS50.
The "hipsters" will never put a big tower of woofers in their studio/bachelor/loft kind of place.

Got it.

Agree with you fully... and that's where the LS50 or the LSX are compelling products.

Like these?
These were intended to be better matched than they ended up, but the same idea:
And some concepts (both multi-piece systems):
The big TAD 16” in a miniOnken, here with add-on Yuchi A-290 horns, but i also have a mdTweeter that substitutes with A10p (with room to mod for A7/11ms.
The smaller version with A12pw (and any midTweeter), a single bass box + A7.3eN has been built:
Alpair 7.3eN/12pw WAW build
There have been a number of protos and other experiments. All the micro-size minOnkens come with plans for supporting bass helpers/stands (as per pic 1), and a few have been done for the larger ones as well, and the option is doable for most stand-mount miniOnkens.

I've had the idea sketched on paper for years, the ideal was to call in Quartet, and have 4 bass modules and 4 MA full range drivers.
But I think making it a bit more 'open source' and a bit more like the PureAudioProject approach with ability for different drivers to suite different rooms, budgets, tastes etc might be able to sell a few. perhaps

Alpair 7 MS full range speaker driver | KJF Audio
Marketed as 'gold'.
Let me know if you put a screwdriver through one, I'll have the other.
Gold & Grey are both outdated artifacts from the 1st gen when there were both gold & grey cones. With the Alpair 7 and A12 the colours changes to copper & silver.
If you have had the old colours, use of their names on the new colours is misleading. May be there because they had lots of stickers to use up. A peeve of mine.

Anyone have a spare 7MS handy in gold? Had an accident with one of mine.
Sounds like you have an opportunity to make a center channel speaker for someone.

Alpair 7 MS | Markaudio
"4in grey or gold colour magnesium alloy cone"
Sounds like you have an opportunity to make a center channel speaker for someone.
That's my plan B!
If I was to push ahead with the two way concept, and from the Mark Audio camp offered pretty much the best ones they make;
Pluvia 7.2HD
Alpair 7ms
Alpair 11ms
What other drivers from other manufactures (if any) would you most like to see?
Out of interest, why bother with the Pluvia when the 7MS is the top dog at that size?
I don't know if a MA A12pw will fit into a monitor-size cabinet,
The short answer is yes.
jeff
@Jason, I'm still not sold on the 7ms for reasons I talk about earlier...need to do a fair comparison and try it again as I wonder if user error had something to do with it..
Oh, that makes sense, I remember you saying you wasn’t especially enjoying the 7MS, was that running full range? If so, it’ll be interesting to hear if you like it more once relieved of bass duties. I absolutely love my 11MS but they are crossed over to bass cabs at 250hz.
