Accuphase has a new super low noise phonostage, the C-37.
That comes as a surprise because the stage they made before is only on the market for ca. 2 years. It uses NPN BJT transistors at the MC input.
It is the 2SC6000. I could not find a complement so far.

many medium power bjt´s have very low voltage noise.
this one has also high and linear hfe and a very high early voltage at a current that works for lowest noise
both, hfe unlinearity and early effect, are sources of distortion.

I seem to remember you estimated or got an indication of rbb from the datasheet, which didn't specified it. Was it VBEsat you used?
