Not as much progress as hoping, but some is good. Found out too late that the tap I was using is the wrong thread, (0.6) so needed to chase the holes with a hard steel screw and ‘bend’ them to 0.5 . Went out to buy a new tap, three stores, nobody has smaller than M4. Ugh. Will have to wait for order from Bezos’ bookstore.
Will get out the bench PSU and fire this channel up.
It works! 😃😃😃
1A5 bias, less than 20mV offset. Very, very nice.
From my (limited) knowledge he was working on solid state amplifiers into the late 90's. Tim liked novelty in circuit design, so unlikely to design a derivative circuit, and even if he was working on a less novel circuit, would like to tweak and optimise. His advantage was a deep knowledge of how everything worked together in a circuit, resulting in petty much everything he touched sounding decent or better. He was in general not that concerned about components, but was quite aware that some types were better than others. He was agnostic on SS v vacuum, and not adverse to dropping in a little bit of sand if it was of benefit. He said he used tubes for commercial reasons. IMPO dP 's "preference" in sound quality was more to the dynamic / transient end of the spectrum.Is there a point in time when Tim stopped developing complementary transistors push-pull amplifiers? It may well be that at some point he too became aware of the physical, "objective" "reality", the audible difference between identical and, above all, non-identical components. Unfortunately, we can no longer ask him about this)-;
Oh....just looked at this thread and just caught it is another amp!
At first just thought it would be about babble fishing and heros, and it is.
But there is another amp! Oh well, doing F8 right now.

isn't everything about that?

I would use slightly thicker wire for 5 energy lines
though, that's just Moi,, ZM Omnichicken

All of the following applies, particularly 'fire' if you were FAB (fearless amp builder) with the bias:
