hey Dave - here's what I had in my email box from 2007 - can you make out enough to do a drawing?
I already did a drawing sufficient to generate the 3D. Probably only needs dimensions and minor details.
BTW: the article has an error in (at least) one of the panels, so it may not fit into one sheet of 4x8.

hey p10 - did you determine which FR might fit MM's characteristics? (FE206E?) - I just bumped into the October 1962 issue of Popular Electronics in my pile. I remember a cool guy long passed away who said he built one in the day.
Mellow Monster Speaker
I built quite a few of these in the early 70's, the college days. The efficiency was amazing. I think I have the plans in the basement.

When I was a teen, my father helped a friend of his build one - probably in '62 or '63. The friend soon stepped up to Dyna gear for stereo, and I inherited the Monster. It had an 8" Wolverine LS-8. It was my first system, with a home-brew amp and a Heathkit FM tuner inherited from another friend of my fathers who couldn't get it to work. (I fixed the tuner - one bad solder joint!)
there ought to be drivers today which are a good fit parameter - wise. It would be nice to see clear plans and any notes not published in the magazine article. (link below)

(any previously unpublished Karlson history is welcomed too. I think there's a paper associated with the later Karlson Twelve which told how many holes to drill in the port panel for a particular speaker)

Thanks Freddi and Dave. Cool looking speaker! Wish I had a pair of old pioneer B20FU20's or maybe something newer like the SB20FRPC30-8 or 4 ohms version might be suitable.
Just to enrich this post with more information about mellow monster I am sending the images I found in this link:

The Coral/Visaton had white surround, not black as in that picture.
Looks more (or exactly) like JBL le8

I love the Mellow Monster, was given a few years ago and didn't do much with them. Decided to revisit them over the last few weeks and make some changes. The outsides are a little rough so the next project is to veneer them.
