for a moment I was confused ...... was sure that I ordered LuDEF P pcbs, while I was seeing "Plethora pcbs" as title in Tracking app in my phone

then I needed to check what I really ordered

anyway, it is LuDEF P arriving, just a brainfart while I was typing in said app

yeah, T-Bed is rarely being cold - nowadays SissySIT P is chugging along as daily companion while I'm working

though, T-Bed 2 is being silent, XA252 still sitting in, waiting for few final OCD touch-ups

I am trying to learn so here is silly question, in M2 autoformer is voltage gain device, and also impedance matching device, right?
But in ludef is 1:1 so no gain, there must be some good reason to be there since it does introduce its distortion through magnetic histeresis. If we want 1:1, why not have some high current buffer instead of hunky piece of metal?

if speaking of other type of buffer in front of autoformer - Tombo already did it (so elegantly) for his LuDEF, there are also myriad of various iteration for M2x (as it is called)

there are also covered fully active iterations, without autoformer

I wasn't and I'm not interested in that approach, from start knowing that I want - of different - to make it later with fully active FE

Yes i was just looking at tombo's and familiar with m2x variations, but i meant instead of autoformer, doing its job.
I saw your sissySIT P with XA252 no autoformer FE, and i guess now ludef P will be along same lines, so that got me thinking, why autoformer in the first place? Surely a bit of gain could better be served with IC, unless iron has some additonal special function too? So it let me to google around, but discussion too general so i asked here #925
You have been around the block and know what's what so when you (and Nelson) do it this way i know there is a very good reason.

you're on slippery soil there - existential questions are rarely replied and properly covered in Audio Forums, even DIY ones; go figure :devily: **

no other reason than same reasons for having so much different sorts of meal

or wine

or whatever

as Pa is saying - mine is to build them, not to choose between them

that's tricky - once when you're on some relatively high level of sound quality, several different amps made with same basic goal on mind (say intended THD Spectra) - are going to sound similarly good

nota bene - similarly good, not same

my main criteria is - each amp must have enough difference in construction ( and hopefully unique quirk) to justify its own existence

that's at least giving me leeway to declare another silly name

**............. so, if above is long to read, skip to this and there is proper explanation for (any - past, present and future) constructional choice and/or compromise I made:

- In pain-stake long and exhaustive listening tests, I tried all of those different solutions and did found them substantially worse, regarding overall sound quality and smallest details revelation, sense of space and energy headroom ....... even if some of them did measure better .......

:clown:  :devily: :devilr:

Ahh ok, i get it, so basically it is your old famous "pick your own poison" :) But that's why R111 is there ;)
Autoformer no NFB, passive, just manipulate energy form. But 8 legged critter is full of tricks, some do not like being tricked.

Maybe one could even say in "high-level thinking-by-association" terms, one is big block chevy, other is fine tuned turbo 1.8 liter.
Brain always tries to make world a known place, maps to already known things, sometimes does not work out well.

The unique quirk with amps totally agree on, too much amps which can say nothing of themselves except some numbers, everything seen before.
That is why FW is king for me, and by extension ZM labs with same spirit.

P.S, thanks a lot for your patience and time explaining to moi
