2" Lilliput LCD
Yeah, I saw those 2" LCD's on E-Bay advertised as a Spy Monitor or something like that... search for Spy (LCD, TFT) and you'll find some dude from Hong Kong selling them for $60 or so, with $20 shipping to the states. I think it worked out to $84 for me to get one to my doorstep, but the resolution was a little too low for me... something like 120x240 or 360x240 or something... I don't remember what it was.

Like you guys say, a separate thread would probably be best.
Interest will build up as LCD monitors keep getting cheaper. I would suggest a separate thread. It will be some little time before people get confidence and technical ability to do the modification, and you may even find LCD monitors that don't need modified, it and every scrap of information will be very helpful. Even if you just take a monitor apart and post some photos for other guys to look at and offer helpful suggestions.
So far in this whole Video section there have been two failures.
There may have been other successes but not posted.
JJasniew and Maddog_rvo
And two successes
Myren and Yander26
Heres a couple of points to consider.
A 15 inch is just too big to fit on an OHP.
A 14 inch will just fit see Yander26's post page 8
A guy in Video projector part 1 (Myren) found a Viewsonic that only had 1 inch wide boards. He did not need to move the boards, only a small controller board and that without lengthening any wires.
I will find the exact post if you like.
Go for it Rekr. Open one up.
How about
"What types of LCD monitors are good for projection"
"How can we modify LCD monitor for projection"
"What are the easiest LCD monitor for projection"
"Good LCD monitor/Bad LCD monitor"

A regular VGA card.
I thought you might have to use something like that.
So option 1 does need a computer or a controller board of some description. Just exactly like I said.
Some people might not like to tie up a dedicated computer to drive their projection panel and opt for a controller instead.
Option 2 does not neccesarily need a controller board. It could be driven from a computer. Just exactly like I said.

OK I started the new thread, hopefully will start to see some interesting results in the near future, as soon as I found an LCD montior for around 150 I'm gonna experiment. I might have to take a ride into Canal Street this weekend and do some haggling, week before Christmas I might be able to get somone to drop below the 200 dollar mark, wish me luck.

I'm not trying to argue (seriously) but you asked what you'd drive a desktop LCD with and I answered. So option 1, you need to dedicate a computer and a standard VGA card (obviously). Option 2 you don't neccesarily need a controller board? I'm confused. Are you saying someone who could learn all the hardcore technical knowlede about LCD's could get one to work without a controller board? Because you didn't mention the "no controller required" part in the original message. Do you really think that's possible, or am I completely not understanding what your trying to say?
My original point- while both options obviously require a dedicated computer, option 1 only requires a reg. VGA card because the controller comes built into the desktop LCD (which you obviously already know). Option 2 requires a special controller (unless I missed something) that performs one or more of the following tasks:
AnalogRGB--->TTL, AnalogRGB--->LVDS, DVI-->TTL, DVI-->LVDS.
The cost of that controller is significantly more than a regular VGA card, which is why option 1 may be better, depending on the price.

I have found the ignore button in Lifters profile and he is now the one and only person I ignore. Ain't life grand.
Can't we all get along
Hi guys.
Without picking any sides in this little argument that is going on between some members of the forum, I must say that people are getting a bit to upset at each other a bit to fast.
I found remps comments very valuable but then I could not easily understand the differences between option 1 and 2. Lifters comment and remps additional response cleared my confusion.
Having said that, I don't think its worth arguing about every little detail in our posts. I think its great that people in this forum are all working towards the same goal of building a cheap and great quality projection system. Everybody's contribution helps.
Lets forget about what has been said and lets just continue the great work.
Cheers,
Exipnos.

Sorry mate but I am not interested in getting along with Lifter.
I think he is far too negative.
He got a final warning from the head moderator for being negative, and then he got sin binned by the moderators for being negative.
I spend hours researching this stuff. I don't actually need it because I have a projector setup at home. This here is just for you guys.
All you have to do is look at this thread from the beggining and you will see a whole bunch of guys all trying to make progress and go forward, and one person who wants to block any positive thinking.
There is an easy way around the Lifter problem. I will stop posting in this thread and get on with other things.

Re: Zardoz
Uvodee, it looks like you are right. And if I am correct you can run both panels at the same time. Maybe one is side mounted on your project box for "preview" purposes? Still no panel here, it's stuck in Lachine Quebec 🙁

addendum......I forgot to mention, for both panels to work together I'm certain they need to be running on the same timing BIOS program as is on the card (somewhat selectable) Yes the LD s270 is a PCI card the 270M is pci 8 meg's ram plain 270 is 4 megs. They also have an AGP design which I ignored for the following reasons.
1. ultimately this card will be paired up with a "el cheapo" all in one MBO, and they don't usually have an AGP slot.
2. I have a really nice vid card in my existing system, that will remain as my primary card (AGP Radeon 8500)

If the likes of you and I and the others that participate in this thread leave, it will die. I think the work done by you and others is invaluable to the forum and this thread in particular. Dont be hasty please my friend, we need your input. We can and WILL deal with whatever problems we face at the moment. I dont like the ignore feature for only one reason....even the most dissruptive student in a classroom can eventually bring some value to leasons being taught. We are all students here, even though some of us dont want to come here to learn there are some that look forward to your posts. I am one of those. If it comes to a vote...I'll be putting a checkmark next to the "remp stays!" box at the polling station.

oh ok, i think i understand better now... your saying that if the person owns a computer already, then option 1 would be cheaper because they would only have to purchase the panels.
for option 2 they would have to purchase a controller if they don't already have one... and since everyone has a vga card, option1 would be cheaper in the end.
KOGi 15" TFT-LCD Flat-Panel Monitor - L5BX
I purchased a new Kogi LCD monitor which i am going to rip this week. But before doing this I would like to ask you guy's help. I know yander26 has already done this before. So please tell me all the difficulties i might face ripping it off.
By the way, best buy has a good deal on this monitor. $289 with a $90 mail in rebate which come to $213 including taxes.
I will take pictures as i start ripping it off and post them here.

antiglare
Does anyone know if antiglare is a good thing or a bad thing as far as using it on an overhead projector is concerned. The Kogi lcd monitor doesn't have antiglare on it. But Mag LT565 15" 1024X768 .297mm Multimedia TFT LCD costs around $212 ($ 250 + tax - $50 mail in rebate) in tigerdirect - and it has antiglare on it. So for buying an LCD, should one look for antiglare or it doesn't matter at all ?

Re: antiglare
Just an opinion...no basis in fact. I think the antiglare will "dim" your picture slightly. Other than that I dont see a problem, most of the laptop screens I've had my hands on have anti glare. I havent got all the gear yet to do a trial though.

Exactly. Where's the harm in saying that?
dismantling Kogi
Ok guys, now I am stuck. I was trying to dismantle the new Kogi lcd monitor. After removing the screws from the back of the panel, i am unable to remove the cover. This might be a silly problem, but is a major hurdle for me. There might be an easy way, but without scratching the body, how can i remove the back cover? Helppppppppp.
