I've just read some of your post's. I understand that this can on the surface be a daunting project. But you need to read a few of the archived posts. We will help you, but it looks like you want us to tell you "exactly" what you need (and where to get it all) to have a DIY PJ.
If you want an OHP style you need an OHP.. a panel... a screen and a darkened room, oh yeah and electricity to run the panel and a source for your data. Thats what you need, now if you want to do a little homework and read through some of the MANY MANY posts (like I did) then you can ask more pointed ...less general questions.
I for one will be more than glad to offer what limited knowledge I have. It's a long task to read all these various post, but well worth the education you will recieve. There appears to be some VERY bright people in this forum, and I for one am glad they are here! I started posting with "too general" questions, then found the course I wished to pursue. This led me to an education in LCD screens from laptops along with the various controllers and all the headache that comes with it. I chose the hard way, building my own cabinet with a controller/laptop screen/wicked powerfull MH HID light....and all the optics and such that goes along with it. The point is untill I started asking some "hard pointy" questions or offered some input of my own I was ignored, and rightly so. When I showed that I was interested enough to try to learn something on my own suddenly the advice and interest from other members was "free flowing".

I'll be the first then...
OK if what you are looking for is someone that knows what the panel is capable of...I dont know what good it is if any. I'm from Canada so have no idea as to what can be had in England.
There! I have opened the door for ALL of the other forum members to tell you they dont know what good it is if any.
My point is...if someone knew something about it they would probably have told you what they know. Getting annoyed because no one can help you is counter productive. And I really dont think helping you will enable us to live longer... so... unless you can supply more info on the panel as far as I'm concerned you are out of luck.
Where did you find it? Why not ask the seller what model it is etc....

I guess you are refeering to the item from Ebay uk. I made a simple google search for your panel and found some data. I searched the google results and found that the panel is from 1986. All the google hits refeer to monocrome panel so this will not work for projection purposes. If your panel is the HR version then its for sure only black and white.
I searched for the info so that I won't have to see your posts on all the threads screaming for information about your panel. Please be kind enought to the people on this forum to do some elementary checking yourself before getting inpatient when nobody know about your panel.
Just my 2cents worth.
Exipnos..

You probably think we are being horrible to you but we are not.
It just seems that your panel is a very old one that is most likely Black and white and with the word Data in the description was probably used in the old days for static computer display.
Its not a normal projection panel suitable for video use that we know about so I think its not usable.
As far as getting a suitable panel in the UK not much help for you there. Suggest read the good panel/bad panel thread to get an idea of panels that will work for you and then you have to find somewhere that sells one. Probably best place is Ebay same as we all use.

No good. Sharp QA1000 is a data projector. Good colours but too slow for full motion video.

Well, Getem56, remp is being very kind to you but zardoz is right. I'm also new to this forum and until you start asking questions that indicate you have spent as much time as everyone else reading the old posts to educate yourself, most poeple will ignore you. Do some reading, most of you answers have already been asked. Try the Good Panel/Bad Panel thread or use the SEARCH funciton..... I'm also new here but until my questions sounded like I had put some of my own time and effort into searching out the answer, I was ignored. 😱

Re: ARV-462
can you be a little more specific? it will work great for a paperweight if thats what you want. We need to know what you mean when you say will it work good... for it's intended purpose? sure! I bet it will, given that you use the correct panel and cables...etc
Shadowfax said:I'm lost. Will the ARV-462 still work good?

Keep in m ind the specs on the 462....they only list it as being tested on some prety big panels. 17 thru 20 inch models....if it will support smaller panels it is a great piece of gear... if not I think the cost of the LCD screen up at these sizes would scare a guy silly!
If you want to use a LCD monitor as the basis of your PJ I'd look a the viewsonic device.

Oh ****!
I just found a 1600x1200 15" display /w an inverter for $525. Now I know that's out of many people's price ranges (as well as mine) so you probably don't care. But for just that much you can make the best projector on the planet.
IBM Dell Inspiron 8000 C800 15" UXGA LCD w/inverter $525.00
http://www.excelcomputerinc.com/html/xlsearchlcds.asp
Now what would the inverter's output be? Since the LCD is from a laptop.

Screw $525. There have been a bunch sold on eBay from $170-$225 for just the panel. Hope somebody puts up more. I wonder if the AVR-462 will work with it. Or what will up to 1600x1200?
inverter
if you plan of removing the backlight from the LCD the inverter is useless. It only fires the CCFL backlight tube...kinda like a mini flourescent tube and ballast setup. I agree it would make an awesome PJ ! 🙂

Shadow... you are going to have to try to find out what model of panel is in a Dell inspiron( or whichever you choose). Here's where we run into trouble.....take for instance Toshiba laptops...lets say we have model X... the toshiba model X can have many differant screens fitted to it, this was made clear to me by a very helpfull guy that does laptop repair near me...he showed me one model of toshiba that has 18 different screens that will run on it....allthough they are all listed as from model X only the one matched to the controller in the laptop will work. (according to him) Further experimentation might prove otherwise, but he doesnt care... it's customer money so he just orders THE screen that is being replaced.
I will have my S270M card next week and have a sharp screen coming from the US next week also. The thing is mine are matched and known to work, but I have suspicion that if pinouts are the same from a ...oh .. say 12 inch LVDS sharp to a 15 inch LVDS sharp I think the 15 might also work. It's my theory that Spectra couldnt possibly test all the panel variants, so they only post the KNOWN to work with list

I emailed Spectra and asked if the Sharp LQ150U1LH22 (the model for the 15" UXGA screen) will work on any of their 1600x1200 controllers. I also emailed another company if they knew of a controller for the LQ150U1LH22. If a 1600x1200 one does exist, I'm going to get the screen and controller in a heartbeat.
and Thats how it's done!
I hope that certain other folks that are in this forum learn from the likes of you and I, too many just sit back and look for reasons/excuses not to comit to anything. And as such do nothing to further the effort... and in some cases setting us back a fair bit.
In any event it is never a total loss a failed attempt 🙁 is just one more "could be" that we can rule out......for now at least 😉

Code breaking
I was very interested in shadowfax's LQ150U1H22 lcd panel so looked it up on Google and got no documents.
Anyway how do they code these panels
Here is a partial breakdown of Sharps panel code
LQ..........150............U.........1............L.........H...........22
LCD......15.0 inch....UXGA
The 1 after the U is likely to be year of manufacture = 2001
Rest of code = unknown
Examples
LQ133F......... = 13.3 inch SXGA
LQ141F......... = 14.1 inch SXGA
LQ150F......... = 15.0 inch SXGA
LQ150U......... = 15.0 inch UXGA
LQ196U......... = 19.6 inch UXGA

My last tracking on my parcels shows my US money order for my panel was recieved yesterday. Does the US post deliver on Saturday? (that's prety cool if they do... talk about service!)
My controller is in Montreal awaiting fedex broker/customs clearance ... seems they dont work on the weekend.
Still in debate on the lamp mount in my reflector of the moment. I think I'm going to mount the lamp on a board and just do some position tests by moving the reflector around the lamp.
It's gonna get REALLY BRIGHT !!! in my living room tonight 😎
