Hi Everyone -
Things sometimes don't go perfectly... so, for those that clicked on the "notify me when available" button for any of the iron pre products, please be sure to check your inbox and (just in case) your spam folder for a notification from diyaudiostore.com within the next few hours. The e-mail will provide additional details re: when the product will go live in the store and be available for purchase. I'll also post here within a few hours of when the product goes live in the store.
If you happen to receive multiple notifications within a 48 hour period, please accept my apologies in advance.
Cheers,
Patrick

I want to buy the balanced version of the Iron Pre. Does anyone know when 6L6 will have the balanced version build guide published? I'm reluctant to order until I know that guide will be available.
Thanks,
John
Thanks,
John
I think you can successfully build a balanced version with the SE guide. It's just double of almost everything. Read it twice, you'll be totally fine 🙂
Plus there's a bunch of people on this thread willing to answer questions you have when you're not sure about something.
I recommend grabbing one now and you'll be happily enjoying glorious tunes sooner than later.

I second all of that ^
Plus...I'm building balanced... for dual mono... and mostly SE inputs since I have no other balanced gear at the moment, yet will add some balanced ins and outs just cause...

Not so sure about that. I understand the dual differential concept
But I,ve never actually wired one.
I'm building a Wolverine right now....hand-made heat sinks, coil your own inductors.....holy cow!

Hi John -
I completely understand the reluctance. I've had a Wolverine on the bench for... well... a... loooooooong time. The Iron Pre (although I agree with ZM that it's a piece of cake) does have a lot of parts.
With that said... the SE and balanced are not very different at all. Setting up the SE inputs and the pot(s) is(are) probably the most tricky differences, and once you know how to do it... no problem.
I can't promise 6L6's time or dates, but until the guide is up, I know we have a TON of resources available. All the critical wiring diagrams (I think) are in post #1. If not, I can add some diagrams and/or send some to you via PM.
I just added a few files. 😉
Come on in; the water is warm. We're here to help.
Cheers!

Zen Mod, you are so lucky that you live in far off Serbia. If I were your neighbor I would be torturing you with stupid questions all day long.

I just grabbed a balanced set. Better head over to chassis store...modushop. Also scored a couple rolls of the solder. No more "Fire Metal" solder? One Balanced Bundle procured!
Looking forward to this build.
Thanks to Aleksandar, Patrick, Patrick, Jim and Dan and everyone else who pitched in to bringing this round home!

I ordered both kits, then realized there was a bundle of both. Oh well I guess it's six of one, or half dozen of the other.
I kind of did the same thing. Cancelled the one order without the bundle though, because I want to just build one single ended kit with the bundle. The bundle is the way to go! Just got too damned excited. One at a time for me. Might even warm up to this SMD thing a little as well, but for now am ecstatic with my second build of this preamp. Um, well, actually this one will be my third. Someday I may spring for the balanced/dual mono version.
Definitely Patrick twice! Maybe three times actually. Thanks to Aleksandar, Patrick, Patrick, Jim
I had no part in it just to be clear. I just like my Iron Pre so much I wont stop talking about it. Maybe there's a different guy named Dan though who played a part 🤔
Don't sell yourself short, Dan. You're a tremendous slouch!
Dan, as always, is a gentleman. I asked him to please not talk too much about the early test builds for obvious reasons while it was early on. He was/is a tremendous help in getting this across the line.
