Dirk,
Yes, that does cover things a lot better. I sure do like the extensions that you made for the controls. The arrangement of the back panel is just right too. To get things accomplished at this level isn't inexpensive. Chassis parts alone are just killer when you go above and beyond.

Hi ZM,
In post # 1757, you said " if there is sibilance, try loading output of preamp itself - resistor shunting output hot to GND (physically - either on pcb output pads, or on RCA/XLR outputs)"
Could you please explain how/why this works and what it does subjectively to the sound.
Thanks. nash

it could tame some ringing in signal transfer, if one is experiencing the same
not that I'm expecting to see any, but I can't predict all sorts of interconnection cables Greedy Boyz are using
some of us are still craving for expensive ( or just looking as ) but overall utter drek cables
been there, repenting

anyhow - if there is sibilance, try same source through just passive volume pot to same amp; I can bet result will exclude Iron Pre
it simply delivers; not result of my Omnipotence, rather nature of JFet buffer and some nice iron
I've just organized routes and, well, some decent juice

and those are the same, if you go to anything close to decent looking and decent functional
difference being what you're go to put inside
though, there is always a fact that you can save by price of own work, stashed material (even God forgot when and how much paid) and tool inventory
really, everything is easy when you're building just one, for my self
PL really started only when Pa finished his own CNC facility in shed (of sort)
go figure
Way back when, I built a DHT pre and used a field test box for the chassis. Maybe paid 50 bucks for it. The hard part was disassembling one of the most beautifully made antique circuits that I have ever seen. You name it. The switches, the cable contacts, just everything at a level unknown today when compared to the average test meter that we can get at Home Depot.
I ended up with this, after drilling holes for tubes and other stuff.

Thanks ZM.
I am not experiencing any sibilance; just wanted tounderstand how shunting a little bit of the output to G changes things.

if you start loading entire shebang with resistor of low enough value, you'll make buffer JFets sweating more, invoking greater THD
some like that, some not
say that from 5K or so, and going down, you'll start hearing difference

The Iron Pre is now listed in the diyAudio store for anyone to purchase. No codes or tricks needed.
There are only balanced kits left. Will SE kits be made available again?
That is why I got on the list for SE kits way back when. It kills me to say this, but I may be selling the kit for what I got into it. You know, life has its surprises.

What does that mean? Topology changes slightly, and JFETs will be pre-installed. Performance will be verified by his Mightiness to be as he expects. So, it's of no consequence to builders.

With that said... once they're back in the store, the supply should be uninterrupted.

I also got on the list and built the SE, but I need a second one! It's that good. Sorry to hear that you may have to sell yours. Yes, life can be a bitch and I've had my fair share. Stay positive brother. That is why I got on the list for SE kits way back when.

no reason, buffer made of solely (2+2pcs) of 2SK2145BL is well verified
just a slightly eeneerweeneer than 3+3, in big iron one and several Papaknockoff amps

I have acquired some of these National Semiconductor 2.5V references (LM336).
Is it the correct one to be used for IronPre?
Do we trust the brand National Semiconductor to be used for IP or audio in general?
The datasheet is attached which was linked to the device as documentation.

You can make SE in to SE out with the balanced kits. Since it will be dual mono may even sound better. Looking at the schematics basically everything looks the same except the Cinemag connections. Maybe ZM can make a comment about the sound comparison SE to SE using balanced kit ans SE kit. There are only balanced kits left. Will SE kits be made available again?

these National Semiconductor
proper one
though, if you pony up for TI or SIgnetics, it'll result in half Rout of buffer and you'll have better bass

proper dual mono is always better
if nothing else , for better sleep
