Yah, my reasoning for the soldering of possible mistakes is as much about how much I trust myself as anything else. It is especially hard when I have made the same mistake twice in a row! I doubt many people do that, really. So when woodworking or electronics, or even driving in a city that I am nor familiar with, extra caution just has to be used. Sometimes what I learn is that I am not the guy you want in the drivers seat. With experience of course, it gets better (usually).
All in all, I keep ordering kits from DIY Audio for very good reasons.

well, some of them are better, some of them are worse ........ and some of them are ZM's
Hello Zen Mod,
I received a Iron Pre from the store. I bought it so I could build and measure it and all that just for fun.
Is there a white paper that tells what a Iron Pre is and what it does? What it does and how it does it?
You know something that puts the information from thousands of posts all in one place.
I will provide APx555 measurements.
Thanks DT

It’s a Jfet buffer with an autoformer attached to the output, that autoformer can be wired for 6db or 12db gain.
The PCB also holds relays for switching inputs, in addition to a shunt-regulated PSU.

If you're able to provide these, you're more than enough able to comprehend everything from first few posts of this very thread, same as (there) linked one, where it first started
in short, Iron Pre is ( as always) Unnecessary Complicated ZM's Iteration of Papa's B1T

Heheheheheh, got the stuff in today. NICE! Great quality board. Well silk screened man. I am so tempted to dive in but other things must be done before I go all ape Sh over this unit. Love that the Cinemag's only fit one way. Dodged a bullet there, I guarantee.

Hello IPA-builders,
another step forward: finished my external - transformer-case today. Did some measurements - especially how low-ohmic is my earthground-connection between AC-powerplug and the preamp (below 0,6 Ohm).
Still some metal-work left. Cage for the cinemags....
Cheers
Dirk 😉

Very clean work. What make/model of transformer did you use? I haven't quite made a decision.
It would be great to see the front panel if it is ready.

Hello IPA-builders,
I like overkill 🙂
though, that front additional plate is totally redundant
there is nothing it can shield from, even if made of Fe
Hello ZenMod,
in the beginning of the construction process, I wanted to put the tranny in the case of the IPA. Now, as there is the transformer in a separated case,
there is no shielding necessary anymore. You are absolutely right.
Cheers
