??why??

I was wondering what the advantage of putting the woofers in two different size enclosures… what is the benefit… and what is the “Q” rating and what does it have to do with the enclosure…what is the importance of it… another think…where did you get bass box 6? I am new so I do not understand the need to make such small enclosures?
What is the benefit and why should I do it?

Thanks,
Slice

I’ve been playing with winisd and I have come up with this…what do you think…
For the first woofer it will be in a sealed compartment of .4 cubic feet…about 11.3 L
For the second woofer it will be in a vented compartment of 1 cubic feet tuned to 40Hz…about 28 L…
The tweeter doesn’t particularly matter where it goes…

What do you think?
Here is a picture of the frequency response:
Note: lime green=”ported” yellow=”sealed”

thanks,
Slice

I thought we were keeping this simple

Not that your suggestions are bad, some of the things you guys are describing are beyond the scope of this project. You guys have been doing this for years. KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!!!!!
What on earth would be so bad if we put both woofers in the same vented box of say 2 ft3(with appropriate baffle step). You say it will effect the mids, I don't believe I could tell a difference, and if I could I don't know if I would prefer one over the other. I also agree with what Chris8 had to say entirely. I just thing having two different low end roll off rates is too confusing, both from audible and design standpoints.

::what ya think of this::

I agree with bostarob that both woofers should be in a 2 cubic foot about 50L +- tuned to 38-40Hz with a port of 3 inches in diameter and about 3 ½-4” inches in length… I think this would be the best for this given situation for simplicity sake.
I think this would be the best bet…

I will start designing this speaker enclosure as soon as I get the feed back from you guys… as for the baffle setup I think I will go with…starting from the top… Tweeter, Woofer, and Woofer… do you think a baffle of ¾” is good?

Thanks,
Slice

Re: t with m's paralleled...i think...

t with m's paralleled is the one with the woofers in the same chamber right?

Actually you could have it either way. If MTM the tweeter needs to be between the two midbasses... i like to get everything as close as possible which usually means pushing the tweeter off to the side -- you might even want to try to trim the tweeters face-plate down to get the drivers closer -- that tweeter has a pretty big mounting plate.

The XO for the TMM should be simpler... but Andy is the one with real world experience with these drivers. This is how i would go (i'd still be putting the 2nd woofer on the back too, but this is your baby slice).

Mr. Feedback I am not interested in your criticism.
If it makes you feel better to bash on me the do you…
I am hear to learn and some of the guys are interested in helping me.
I am sure you are not so I would appreciate it if you kept your thoughts so you’re self in this instance. I think you are and insecure person and you should really work on building your self up. I think that if you just stopped coming to this thread it would be best for all of us. I wish you could have been of some use but obviously you have it set in your mind that I am a bad person and I do not deserve the knowledge that the others are trying to teach me. I don’t know why you enjoy bashing of me but if it makes you feel better go ahead and do it. I am secure in myself so I am not affected by your childish comments.

As for the others who are trying to help I will have the enclosure design up by the end of this week.

Thanks,
Slice

Hey Slice,
It might be good to keep in mind that the people that have shown that they are interested in helping you, also probably have (more than) full time jobs, families, diy audio hobbies of their own etc. and haven't forgotten about you, but don't need to be constantly pestered with messages accusing them of abandoning you.

I'm sure you will get your help, but take it easy, you might have more time to devote to this than they do....

This is not a flame or critisism, just trying to keep everyone calm.

You have been really fortunate that a couplee of people have taken you under their wing. There is no rule saying they have to.

I'm interested in how this speaker comes out- Maybe it'll be a classic!!
