Hypex DSP module(s)

Moving from MiniDSP to DLPC questions

Tired of (un)matching nice stuff with an unstable end result, I am moving from a (balanced) DIY chain of home build components based on the MiniDSP-8x2-HD to all Hypex.

One question (really 2): Using the DLCP as a X-over only, can I couple the screen / IR receiver board directly to the DLPC without using the input board with al the XLR's? I am assuming (always dangerous) that those signals go to J3 without processing on the input board?! Does anyone know the pin description of that one?

I would like to be able to manage volume and/or have RC without having to incorporate the input board as I will only use usb and digital in (using chassis connectors) directly to the DLPC. I am not afraid of mild DIY to get there ;-)

MiniDSP allows you to connect IR/Volume control straight to the board (Vol-FP).

Thanks
Peter

Hello, could someone explain why I cannot set time delay in any of six Dlcp channels? I wanted to estabilish simple crossover for two drivers for some testing and I noticed that entering delay values doesn't change summed frequency response in crossover area when I measuring them with REW. I am using latest Dlcp with newest firmware and latest Hfd software and Control board. Is it normal?

How useful is the control module when you're using a single fixed input and when you do the volume control on another pre-amp?

Trying to safe myself milling holes in the front panel and having to watch a blue(?) constant-on lcd all the time. In addition I can then use the front panel as heatsink for a bunch of amp modules, something that would be more challenging with the control modul in the way.

Since I want IR control I will still need to mount the control module somewhere inside the case (I was thinking in an un-used corner somewhere), but it should be possible to solder three wires to the IR receiver diode and connect that to another diode on the outside of the case somewhere. Correct?

This has happened to me as well for no obvious reason.
A reinstall of the firmware fixed it

I am looking to bypass the input coupling caps of the UCD180HG units.

In the AK4936 spec sheet it is explicitly mentioned that there is no DC at the output. Did anyone measure the LDCP DC output?

Or is there any disadvantage I am not taking into account?

Thanks
Peter

In the world of DIY you are free to make unsafe choices about coupling. Here safe is a technical reference to not having safety if something goes awry upstream and causes DC to be created. In an unprotected DC coupled system, you are just that. So, how much do your driver units cost in your speakers?

Adding a servo stage into the system allows you to not use a cap in line with the audio and have some DC protection. Or using a higher quality cap.

Its DIY, so make your choice and live with it. Just be informed.

Cheers

True, and thanks for the warning, I handle the same adagio in Industrial safety😀 In the hobby you can live dangerously without too much risk:roll eyes:

Yet DC is not created magically by a DAC chip I guess unless it gets fried in some way. Is there an amplification behind the DAC? Could be as you can set the gain.
On the other hand there could be caps already behind the DAC on the LDPC pcb to block any DC.
